Coldplay’s upcoming world tour will be powered by BMW EV batteries

BMW and Coldplay are teaming up to go down in music history for having the most eco-friendly world tour ever. The band will be using recycled BMW i3 batteries that are rechargeable via solar and kinetic energy to power each concert during their tour.

Over 40 recycled i3 batteries will be used to power Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour. These batteries and a Hydrotreated Vegetable oil generator will replace the usual diesel and petrol generators.

The batteries will be recharged via renewable sources including solar panels, power bikes, and a kinetic stadium floor. Yeap, fans will be powering the concert by just dancing to the beat on the stadium floor as the band performs.

With the use of these energy generators, the concerts are estimated to reduce their carbon footprint by up to 50 percent.

The world tour is a continuation of the collaboration between BMW and Coldplay. The manufacturer has been linked to the band since 2014 where the band brought their Ghost Stories Tour to a close at the BMW Welt in Munich.

An official collaboration between BMW and the band only started earlier this year when the band’s hit song ‘Higher Power’ was used in the BMW i4 and BMW iX purpose film. Coldplay also performed in the virtual world of BMW Joytopia event at the IAA Mobility in Munich.

BMW and Coldplay also invite everyone to follow the band’s low carbon footprint challenge. Coldplay will be documenting their journey as they perform around the world. In case you’re wondering when they'll make it to Thailand or Singapore, the band has yet to set any concert stops in Asia.
