New Isuzu D-Max 2019 launched in Malaysia, new 150 PS 1.9L turbodiesel

Isuzu Malaysia has just introduced the updated  Isuzu D-Max 2019, now available with the new 1.9-litre Ddi BluePower turbodiesel engine.

The new smaller capacity 1.9-litre engine replaces the older 2.5-litre engine. Although smaller, it makes 14 PS more power (150 PS) and 30 Nm more torque (350 Nm).

The larger 3.0-litre engine remains available. As before, it makes 177 PS at 3,600 rpm and 380 Nm at 1,800 - 2,800 rpm.

Transmission choices for the new 1.9L include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, available in both rear and four-wheel drive (Part-time), while the 3.0L will use the carried over 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic.

The updated Isuzu D-Max 2019 range comes in a shocking total of 11 variants:

1.9L Single Cab 4x4 MT: RM 85,799
3.0L Single Cab 4x4 MT: RM 92,838
1.9L Double Cab 4x2 MT Low Ride: RM 80,149
1.9L Double Cab 4x2 MT Hi Ride: RM 86,699
1.9L Double Cab 4x4 MT Type B: RM 96,699
1.9L Double Cab 4x2 AT Hi Ride: RM 100,049
1.9L Double Cab 4x4 AT Type B: RM 104,599
1.9L Double Cab 4x4 MT-P: RM 105,999
3.0L Double Cab 4x4 MT Type B: RM 106,738
1.9L Double Cab 4x4 AT-P: RM 115,799
3.0L Double Cab 4x4 AT-P: RM 120,838

Prices start from RM 80,149 for the D-Max 1.9L 4x2 MT Low Ride, while the range-topping 3.0L 4x4 AT-P sets buyers back at RM 120,838.

Features in all Premium variants (AT-P) of the Isuzu D-Max 2019 include:

  • Bi-LED headlights
  • LED daytime running lights
  • LED tail lights
  • 18-inch alloy wheels with 255/60 R18 tires
  • e-Lumax multi info display
  • 8-inch touchscreen head unit with Smart Link
  • 8-speaker audio system
  • Automatic single-zone air-conditioning

The D-Max 3.0L Premium further adds side and curtain airbags to the mix, bringing the total airbag count to 6.

There's a lot of variants on offer but to keep things simple, urbanites who want to get into the urban truck lifestyle but don't need a 4x4 can opt for the 1.9 4x2 AT Hi-Ride variant, which starts at just RM 100,049.

The 4x2 variant offers all the cargo hauling utility of a pick-up truck but consumes less fuel than 4x4 variants. For those that want a pick-up that matches the features of a passenger car, there's the 4x4 AT-P variant, at RM 115,799.

Business owners however, might prefer the 1.9 4x2 MT Low Ride.

All variants except for the Double-Cab 4x2 MT Low-Ride and 4x2 AT Hi-Ride are locally-assembled at the DRB-Hicom plant in Pekan, Pahang.

The two aforementioned variants are imported from Thailand. The remaining  locally-assembled variants qualify for Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) incentives – the first pick-up truck in the country to do so, thus the reduced prices.

In addition to EEV incentives, the 1.9-litre variants of the Isuzu D-Max 2019 benefits from lower road tax, as owners need to pay just RM 329 annually, as opposed to the RM 839 for the older 2.5L variant.

For buyers who place their bookings placed between 18 September to 31 October 2019, Isuzu Malaysia is offering a buyers of the Isuzu D-Max 2019 with a 5-year unlimited warranty (standard warranty is limited to 150,000 km) and a 8-year free maintenance package (maximum mileage of up to 80,000 km, depending on variant).

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr

Review: BYD Dolphin in Malaysia - A solid choice for EV beginners, except for one thing

You might be aware that Malaysia prohibits the import of electric vehicles (EVs) priced below RM 100,000, and this is indeed accurate. The rationale behind this policy, driven by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), is actually sound when you consider their goal of attracting investments in the EV sector. In the world of technology, most of the valuable stuff is in the higher-end product range. Cheaper electric cars have minimal technological sophistication; they're kind of li
