Thailand gears up to export W223/V223 Mercedes-Benz S-Class to Vietnam

Mercedes-Benz Thailand is geared up to export the W223/V223 Mercedes-Benz S450 to Vietnam. Under the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) with Mercedes-Benz Vietnam, the first batch of cars is will be exported to Vietnam within this year.

The Mercedes-Benz S450 is assembled at the Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Thailand plant in the Samut Prakan Province.

Roland Volger, President of Mercedes-Benz Thailand, said, “After the launch of the new S-Class last year and it has been well received by customers. Thai Mercedes-Benz today Thailand is proud to deliver this flagship model assembled in Thailand to neighbouring Vietnam.

“This is a country where the automotive industry has good growth potential. This is an important milestone shared between Mercedes-Benz. Thailand and Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Thailand was formed through the dedication of excellent teams in the different departments of both companies.

“Vietnam will be the first country in the region where we export an S-Class model. Possible with Mercedes-Benz Vietnam to export other car models to Vietnam and looking for new opportunities to do business with other ASEAN countries as well.”

Under the ATIGA agreement, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand have already reduced 99.65 percent of the tariffs on intra-ASEAN imports, while Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam are all able to reduce import duties by 10 percent.

Mark Berger, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Thailand said, “Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Thailand is always looking for export opportunities within the region. This takes into account both existing and potential regional trade agreements.

“Exporting S-Class from Thailand to Vietnam is the first export project. This is in line with our regional product strategy and if there is a commercial possibility, we are also ready to consider exporting other models to other ASEAN countries as well."
