Remember this murder case of a BMW driving over a man? The suspects have been acquitted

Remember the murder of a BMW 5 Series driving over a man in a petrol station that happened in 2017? All 3 suspects in the case have been acquitted of all charges by the Johor Bahru high court recently.

To refresh your minds, news reports at that time stated that the victim was stabbed 3 times before the suspects returned to the white BMW 5 Series. Panic ensued at the petrol station when the suspects threw a firecracker out of the car before proceeding to drive the car over the victim multiple times.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of murder but according to a news report by Harian Metro yesterday, all three men were acquitted after the acting prosecutor failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove the prima facie case.

Judicial Commissioner, Dr Shahnaz Sulaiman, decided to acquit Gan Jia Ji, 22, Yip Kah Hou, 26, and Woon Kian Hui, 25, according to the following reasons:

• The court finds the CCTV footage provided as evidence too blurry to proof that the 3 suspects were at the scene.
• DNA tests according to evidence at the crime scene have returned with no matches to the 3 suspects.
• The prosecution also failed to link the BMW car allegedly used by the accused to commit the crime.

All we can say is: innocent until proven guilty.
