Too Many Perodua Axia Variants to choose from? READ THIS!

Being the second best-selling Perodua models after Myvi in Malaysia counting the first four months of 2019, Perodua Axia was first introduced as the cheapest new car on the market in 2014. For your knowledge. The variant’s name ‘Axia’ is derived from the Greek word ‘ΑXΙΑ’ coating the meaning of value on its cheapest pricing.

The latest Axia has up to 6 variants available for the domestic market. Despite its teeny-weeny price differences, most may in two minds when choosing a variant from the dazzling configuration menu. Before getting into the recommendation, let’s take a glance on the standard parameters and also add-on among different variants.

Standard Features

All variants share the same external body dimensions measuring 3,640mm in length, 1,620 mm in width, 1,510 mm in height and have a wheelbase of 1385mm. For the internal body dimensions, the cabin gives 1,900 mm in length, 1385 mm in width and 1240 mm in height over 14-inch wheels with 175/65 tires.

1.0-liter GDI naturally-aspirated engine is used making 68 PS (67 hp) at 6,000 rpm, and 91 Nm at 4,400 rpm, fulfil a 1-100 km acceleration in 15 seconds. Fuel tank capacity is 998cc with a rated economy of 4.6 L per 100 km by New European Driving Cycle.

Halogen projector headlamps and LED combination tail lamps are in place for all variants from the outside. Only two colours come as standard – Glittering silver and Ivory White.

Inside the cabin, power socket and two cup holders are equipped at the front for driver and side passenger's convenience. Regarding the safety system, two airbags, child safety lock, driver seatbelt reminder, 5 three-point seat belts, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and ISOFIX is the default.

Add-on Bonus

Perodua Axia Standard G

Perodua Axia G is an advance variant compared to the standard Perodua Axia E. Inside, radio USB player with 4 speakers are added with electroluminescent analogue instrument cluster in front of the driver. For rear passengers, they get to place one beverage on the cup holders without letting the melting water dripping down their hands. The exterior setting is also upgraded, including LED projector headlamps and LED daylight running lights, alloy wheels, folding wing mirrors plus two more colour options – Ebony black and midnight blue.

The G variant offers two different transmission option for owners – 5-speed manual and 4-speed conventional automatic mode. Bringing in alarm, immobilizer, ISOFIX and two parking rear sensors, the G variant can be claimed as a decent one compared to the gimped safety features on the standard E variant.

Perodua Axia SE

Perodua Axia SE plays the Axia’s special edition role, replacing the manual key with a Keyless Push Button. Speaking of electric specs, the special edition also has Bluetooth, front foglamps, wing mirror turn indicators, keyless locks and 2 front parking sensors.

Similar to the G variant, the special edition also gives manual or automatic transmission choose to owners. Two more colours are given over what G edition has – Lava red and Sunflower yellow.

Perodua Axia Advance

Perodua Axia Advance shares lots of features with the special edition. While staying the same on the outside with that of the SE variant, Advance is loaded with touchscreen radio DVD / MP3 player with Bluetooth, GPS, Smartlink, 4 speakers and steering audio control. For trimming, the material used for seats and steering is full leather.

How to choose

From the parameters add-on bonus displayed above, it’s cleared that there are 3 instead of 6 different range for consumers to choose. For the standard E variant, you can bring home a very basic car with only RMB 22K (on-the-road price). March to the next level, the G variant is presented in two more colours with intact safety features and exterior upgrades while still remaining a reasonable price (OTR RMB 31-33K). Suppose that’s the pulse that drives this variant to become the most popular among the whole line-up.

Next is the special SE variant, which embodies the modern electrical concept in an obvious but simple way, such as the introduction of the keyless push button and Bluetooth. Its vigorous character also leaked out by putting on so-called lava red and sunflower yellow, thus safe to say that the SE variant fits the young generation who has limited capital but don’t mind paying a little bit more (RM 34-36K) to play with some electrical elements well. As for the one who wants an up-scale finish for the interior trimming and tech, the Axia Advance (RM 39K) should be the pick.

No more dealers, only retail partners - Mercedes-Benz Malaysia adopts agency model

To be clear, the headline above doesn’t mean that familiar names like Cycle & Carriage or Hap Seng Star will cease operations. No, the Mercedes-Benz dealers that you are familiar with will continue operating from their existing premises. The difference is that they will soon be re-designated as Mercedes-Benz retail partners, not dealers. In a press statement released earlier this evening, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia said its dealers are expected to transition into a new agency sales model in Septembe

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has been unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, marking the N division's first all-electric model. Rowan Atkinson drives H2-powered Toyota GR Yaris and calls EV race cars "washing machines"

Known more for his portrayal as the child-minded, red-necktie-wearing, teddy bear-hugging man behind a green Mini with a number plate that spells out SLW, Rowan Atkinson, the man, is an accomplished person and a huge petrolhead. However, the comedian caught a lot of flak from EV enthusiasts when he published a column in The Guardian stating that the whole environmentally-friendly image of EVs is nothing more than lies. In short, he was tricked, bamboozled, lied to, and whatever other vocabulary
