The all-new 2020 Honda City has yet again, scored another 5-star rating at the latest crash test by ASEAN NCAP.
This time, it is for the all-new generation model and the test was conducted at Japan’s JARI (Japan Automobile Research Institute) lab, using a Thailand market car, simply because the model is currently only available in Thailand.
The all-new Honda City scored 32.38 out of the maximum 36 points for adult occupant protection. More importantly, it scored a maximum 16 points for side impact protection.
Similarly for child occupant protection, it also scored the maximum 8 points for side impact, giving it a total child occupant protection score of 44.72 points out of the maximum 49 points.
It should also be noted that the current test 2017-2020 test protocol used by ASEAN NCAP is different from the earlier 2012-2016 protocol. The latest test results should not be compared against test results done using the earlier protocol.
To recap, the all-new Honda City is currently available in Thailand with a new 1.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, paired to a CVT-type automatic. However not all countries will get the new engine. In fact, most countries will continue with the current 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. The all-new Honda City is not expected to be launched in Malaysia until early 2021. Whatever plans to introduce the all-new model here within this year is likely to have been pushed back by Covid-19 and the ongoing MCO.
