Geely Emgrand GS refreshed, the Proton Suprima Crossover we never had

The Chinese media have released spyshots of the updated Geely Emgrand GS. The Emgrand GS isn’t a brand-new model per se, so it won't likely show up in Malaysia as the spiritual successor to the Proton Suprima S.

The pre-facelift Emgrand GS

In fact, the hatchback crossover has been on sale since 2016 and sold under the Emgrand series. It is a handsome-looking crossover with its design penned by Peter Horbury.

During its five years of production, the Emgrand GS was given a couple of updates but this latest one looks more than just an updated 'expanding cosmos' grille. Keeping in line with the more upscale Geely Preface and the incoming Geely KX11, the facelifted Emgrand GS will sport a grille with vertical slats.

Elsewhere on the front, the updated crossover will also receive a new bumper and new lights. At the side, the Emgrand GS will sport a new floating roof design thanks to the blacked-out C-pillar.

Meanwhile, the rear also sports some updates including a slimmer taillight design and the Geely name spelled out in full across the tailgate. Speaking of the tailgate, the updated Emgrand GS badge does resemble the Toyota GR badge.

Depending on which variant is selected, buyers can opt to have a panoramic sunroof or blacked-out wheels with red brake calipers.

While there are no official images of the interior, there have been some spyshots shared across Chinese social media and from the looks of things, it does have a more modern feel thanks to the floating screen display and redesigned centre console.

Pre-facelift Emgrand shown

Also according to Chinese media, the engine for the updated Emgrand GS remains unchanged which are a naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder 1.8-litre (133 PS/170 Nm) or a turbocharged 4-cylinder 1.4-litre engine (133 PS/215 Nm). The former is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic DCT while the latter is only paired to a 6-speed DCT.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr
