LWB 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class L unveiled; more luxurious than the BMW 330 Li

The long-wheelbase 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class L (V206) has made its debut at the Shanghai Auto 2021. It’s manufactured by Beijing Benz (JV between BAIC Motor and Daimler AG).

Introduced with the motto "Made in China, for China", the C-Class L appears to be exclusive for the China market. Interestingly, there is a trim line option that gives it the traditional Mercedes-Benz grille with ornament.

But let’s get to the meat of the subject – wheelbase. While Mercedes-Benz has yet to release its specifications, it has been reported that the wheelbase of the C-Class L measures at 2,954 mm, which is 89 mm longer than the regular W206 C-Class.

Overall length measures at 4,882 mm, a 131 mm increase over the standard wheelbase model. However, the C-Class L still manages to look pleasingly proportionate despite the stretched rear doors. Now it really lives up to the “mini S-Class” nickname.

Apart from the extended legroom inside, the centre armrest is larger with more storage compartments and USB ports, while the headrests get additional cushions for added comfort.

Other special, market-specific features include the comfort suspension and enhanced noise insulation for an even quieter interior.

Details on the powertrain are undisclosed, but the obvious candidates are the 1.5- or 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. The 48V mild hybrid technology is likely, while a 9-speed automatic transmission is almost certain.
