Google says Honda is Malaysia’s most searched car brand of 2021, not Perodua

Perodua might be the king of sales in Malaysia in 2021 and the Perodua Myvi holds the title as the country’s best-selling car for the umpteenth time but over on the web, Honda is the country’s most searched car brand of 2021.

This is according to Google Trends data which analyses the top searched vehicle brands for 154 countries on Google in 2021. Just like prior years, Australian insurance comparison site, Compare the Market has created a map that showcases which vehicle brands were most searched in each location.

Worldwide, Toyota was the most searched car brand in 2021, topping in 47 of the 154 countries analysed. The Japanese carmaker kept its pole position but the figures are down from 2020 which saw it being the most searched in 55 countries.

Taking second and third place are BMW and Mercedes-Benz with 29 and 23 countries respectively. Ever since Compare the Market started compiling a map detailing the world’s most searched car brands in 2019, the top 3 positions are held by these three brands with BMW taking first place in the inaugural year.

Meanwhile, Tesla became the most searched vehicle brand in 5 countries in 2021 including China, Hong Kong, Israel, Macau, and Singapore. What’s more interesting is that the Musky EV company is the second or third most searched in a number of interesting countries.

It’s quite understandable for it to be among the most searched in countries like Norway, South Korea, and the United States where EV adoption rates are high. However, it is also among the most searched in countries like Guinea, Rwanda, Syria, and Yemen. Perhaps, owning a Tesla is an aspiration for most of these folks.

Similarly, Rolls-Royce is the most searched car brand in Laos according to Google Trends. The Southeast Asian country is the only one where the Spirit of Ecstasy is ranked first in terms of searches. Other brands that were the most searched in one country included Mazda (Malawi) and Peugeot (France).

A Honda showroom in the Philippines

Malaysia wasn’t the only country that really loves to search Hondas while the boss isn’t looking. Three countries listed ‘Lambang H’ as their most searched car brands with the Philippines and the Bahamas worshipping VTEC as much as we do.

Though Google searches don’t provide an accurate representation of each country, it is still interesting to see what brands each country searches the most, be it for curiosity or even as a buying purchase.
