Indonesia launches VTEC Turbo-powered 2022 Honda HR-V with Sensing, 177 PS, price up by 14%

The all-new 2022 Honda HR-V has just been launched in Indonesia, and joy of joys, it also marks the world debut of the SUV with a VTEC Turbo engine!

Naturally prices have gone up to a maximum of 14%, with the range now starting from IDR 355.9 mil (~RM 105k) to IDR 499.9 mil (~RM 147k), but this also means a longer spec-sheet that includes standard Honda Sensing.

First market with a turbocharged HR-V

Two engine options are offered, one with the turbo, and the other, naturally aspirated:

  • 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo - 177 PS/240 Nm (RS exclusive)
  • Naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC - 121 PS/145 Nm (S, E, SE)

Unlike last time a manual transmission is no longer offered, and all of them now have CVT-type automatic transmissions.

Standard kit for the all-new HR-V includes LED headlights, hill descent control, vehicle stability assist, and most importantly the Honda Sensing ADAS suite.

The HR-V E variant

Features on the HR-V's Sensing suite encompass:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow (ACC, LSF)
  • Auto High-Beam (AHB)
  • Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN)

Going up the spec-sheet, higher-end variants of the all-new HR-V gain niceties like paddle shifters, rear air-cond vents, bigger wheels, larger infotainment touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, and Honda Lanewatch.

Expansive sunroof lifts the cabin ambiance

The HR-V RS is the highlight of the bunch, and besides its turbocharged engine, it also receives a variant-exclusive bodykit, digital instrument cluster, and a hands-free powered boot. It also gets a drive mode selector that cycles between Sport, Normal, and Econ modes.

Prices for the all-new Honda HR-V in Indonesia are as follows:

It's fair to feel antsy, considering Indonesia now joins Singapore and Thailand as our neighbours with the model earlier than us. There's still a bit of waiting to do, as it's only coming here in the second half of this year (H2 2022).

But it won't be all for naught: ours will also come with a turbocharged engine, alongside the naturally-aspirated and hybrid models.
