As launch day approaches, the all-new 2022 Honda HR-V spotted in Malaysia again

  • All-new Honda HR-V spotted in Malaysia again
  • This unit seems to wear 18-inch dark chrome wheels, like Thailand
  • Should the Corolla Cross be worried?

Following its debut in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, the all-new 2022 Honda HR-V will be debuting in Malaysia real soon as new spyshots of the B-segment SUV have surfaced on social media.

Thanks to our friends over at Careta, a reader sent them photos of a covered-up vehicle on a flat-bed truck. Looking closely at the wheels, it does bear some resemblance to the 18-inch dark chrome units found on the Thai-spec HR-V.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Honda Malaysia is gearing up to launch the all-new RV-generation Honda HR-V in July, with three engine choices in tow.

Like the Corolla Cross Hybrid, the Malaysian-spec HR-V will likely offer a hybrid as well

The first is a naturally aspirated i-VTEC mill, followed by a VTEC Turbo unit, as well as a petrol-electric i-MMD hybrid. All three engines are 1.5-litre in capacity.

How much will the all-new Honda HR-V be priced in Malaysia?

The outgoing Honda HR-V is powered by a larger 1.8-litre engine. In Malaysia, this engine puts the RU-generation HR-V in a higher excise tax bracket. In theory, prices of the all-new HR-V, thanks to its smaller 1.5-litre engine, should be cheaper, but not if the engine is hooked up to a more sophisticated hybrid or turbocharged system – which is the case with the new HR-V.

Plus, the all-new HR-V is progressively more upmarket than the model it replaces, with cabin materials that feel more premium than before, complete with ingenious side air vents that creates an air curtain on the front-side windows to keep occupants cool.

Thailand only sells the hybrid version of the HR-V

Earlier, our sources mentioned that the prices of the all-new 2022 Honda HR-V will be competitively enough against the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, the latter is currently priced between RM 123,000 to RM 136,500, without SST.

The outgoing RU-generation Honda HR-V is priced between RM 104k to RM 118k.
