Kia EV6: Not available in showrooms but it has just arrived at WapCar Auto Show

Yes we know the 2022 Kia EV6 has already been launched, and yes we love it, but unlike other cars on sale, the unit you're looking at here is your only chance at getting up close and personal with this snazzy new EV.

Why? Well simply because the first shipment of EV6s has all been spoken for, and will be delivered to customers starting in Q3 of 2022. The EV6 is not even available in Kia showrooms, and thus your best chance of viewing it is at the WapCar Auto Show 2022.

Note, that the singular display model featured is a homologation unit which doesn't feature a sunroof (as will be available in customer cars), but is otherwise identical to the locally-sold model.

To recap, the recently launched Kia EV6 is a fully-electric SUV based on the E-GMP platform which also underpins the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV SUV. Local distributors Dinamikjaya Motors introduced a singular variant of the EV6, the long-range GT-Line AWD, imported from Korea, priced from RM 300,668 with SST.

The Kia EV6 delivered to the WapCar Auto Show 2022

The Kia EV6 powertrain sees two electric motors, one on each axle, delivering a total of 325 PS (239 kW) and 605 Nm to all four wheels. It draws power, from a water-cooled 77.4 kWh high voltage battery, which is 4.8 kWh larger than the unit supplied in the Ioniq 5.

Most of the time, the vehicle is rear-wheel driven, with the front axle's motor engaged only when necessary. Drive it sedately, you can (in theory) achieve 506 km on a single charge (WLTP test cycle). Claimed energy consumption is 17.2 kWh/100 km.

As with most battery EVs today, AC charging is via a Type 2 socket while DC fast charging is via the CCS2 socket.

One of the most impressive parts about the Kia EV6 is its dual 400V / 800V electrical architecture. The dual-mode architecture allows it to support up to 350 kW DC fast charging, which can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

Besides its high-tech powertrain, the EV6 is chock-full of active and passive safety features. Seven airbags, hill-start assist, with the full suite of advance driving aids (ADAS) which include Adaptive Cruise Control, a 360-degree parking camera, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert with Collision Avoidance.

The WapCar Auto Show Exhibition will take place at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, this Friday to Sunday, 10 AM to 10 PM.

Apart from Kia, other exhibitors include Mazda, Peugeot, Honda, Toyota, and Mercedes-Benz. Good deals on auto accessories including DDPai dashcams, Trapo car hygiene products, IGL Coatings paint protection, Karcher car wash products, custom-made DK Schweizer leather upholstery, and Harman’s Infinity audio systems, will also be available.

The event will take place at the piazza area of Pavilion Bukit Jalil. Visitors are encouraged to register online here to redeem a free door gift. The nearest covered parking to the exhibition area is Car Park Entrance C, just before the slip road to exit the main road into Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
