Last week, a newsletter by RHB Investment revealed that Dinamikjaya Motors, Kia’s Malaysian distributor and a subsidiary of Bermaz Auto (BAuto), is looking to launch the new generation (NQ5) Kia Sportage in the fourth quarter of this year (Q4 2024). This has been further confirmed by BAuto CEO, Datuk Francis Lee, in a recent interview with The Edge. He told the local financial publication that Kia is the company’s “new workhorse” for growth over the next 2 to 3 years, replacing Mazda as it moves

Dinamikjaya Motors, a subsidiary of Bermaz Auto and sister company to Mazda distributor Bermaz Motor, is expected to launch the new generation 2024 Kia Sportage in Q4 this year. This is according to a newsletter by RHB Investment Bank. The Kia Sportage was last sold in Malaysia in 2019, towards the end of Naza’s tenure as Kia’s distributor here. The current fifth-generation Kia Sportage (model code NQ5) was launched in Korea in July 2021. When launched in Malaysia, the 5-seater C-segment Sportag

As we progress through the second half of 2023, let’s round up the cars that are likely to be launched in Malaysia by the end of this year. There are still quite a few, so we’ll be splitting this up into sections, starting with non-EV SUVs. Without delay, we’re going straight in. 2023 BMW X5 (G05) facelift Earlier this year in February, the G05 2023 BMW X5 was given a mid-cycle refresh with redesigned front and rear ends, refreshed interior with the curved dual-widescreen display, plus updated e

Kia delivered 2,903,619 vehicles in 2022, up 4.6 percent from the year before despite facing strong headwinds due to the global shortage of semiconductor parts. Its top 3 best-sellers are SUVs. The Kia Sportage is its No.1 selling model worldwide, with 452,068 units delivered. This is followed by the Kia Seltos with 310,418 units, and the Kia Sorento with 222,570 units. These three SUV models contribute 33 percent of Kia’s global sales for 2022. The company did not reveal its sales figures for o

So, another year older, another year marked with interesting (or forgettable) cars, and we'll be doing it all over again next year. SUVs will undoubtedly continue to play a greater focus here, so in this article – part one of three – we'll look at the possible non-luxury, non-EV SUVs that are very likely to launch in Malaysia in 2023. Hang on to your downpayments, we're going straight in... 2023 Chery Omoda 5 We'll start off with a bang, perhaps the most awaited-for model in this list. It's alre

Design
The front of the Kia Sportage Malaysia is higher than many SUVs, which is one of the controversial parts. The grille is still Kia-style with the badge above it. The headlights are slim and the fog lights are higher than other cars as well. If you lower the car, it looks like a hatchback on the profile.

Interior
The layout of the central console is simple and tidy, especially the 7-inch color LCD touchscreen audio dashboard is sloped to the driver’s side and this is very considerate.
Instrument Cluster
For the GT variant, Kia Sportage Malaysia has provided a 4.2-inch color TFT-LCD display, which can show some basic information about the car to the driver.
Space and Practicality
Passengers at the front and rear can get adequate headroom and knee room. In addition, the rear seats can be laid down as 60:40.
Boot
The cargo room of the Kia Sportage Malaysia is 466 litres, if you want more, you can lay down the rear seats.

Powertrain
Engine
For the EX, Kia Sportage Malaysia has offered a Nu 2.0 MPI engine which can produce 155ps @ 6200rpm and 192Nm @ 4000rpm, while the GT is an R 2.0 CRDi VGT engine delivering 185ps @ 4000rpm and 400Nm @ 1750-2750rpm.
Transmission
Both of the two versions use the same 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Drive System
The EX is 2WD and the GT Line is AWD.
Driving Performance
The EX’s speeding-up is not so ideal so if you want good acceleration, you better choose the GT.
Engine Performance
In terms of EX, the engine parameters are not as good as many people expect, especially the rev of the top torque while the GT is very good.
Transmission Performance
The 8-speed gearbox feels smooth on the road and there’s not much jerk.
Steering and Handling
The chassis and suspension are acceptable but when it comes to the EX, it gives you a wrong sense that the steering wheel is heavy.
Ride Comfort
The voice isolation is good inside the cabin but when you are driving at high speed, there may be some noise.
Passenger Comfort
The front seats can warp you well but the back and thigh support is not as good as some people expected.
Fuel Economy
The EX variant’s fuel efficiency is about 7.9l/100km while the GT is about 6.5l/100km.
Conclusion
As many people argue about Kia Sportage’s appearance, we may find out that the engines of both versions are controversial as well. For a Korean-made SUV in the Malaysian auto market, Kia Sportage Malaysia seems very hard to beat its competitors in some ways.
The fuel consumption of new 2024 Kia Sportage in Malaysia is 7.9 litres per 100 km,and the manufacturers claimed fuel consumption of 2019 Kia Sportage 2.0 EX is 7.9 litres per 100 km.
