Overview

The 2020 Mitsubishi Xpander Malaysia will go up against the Honda BR-V and Perodua Aruz/Toyota Rush twins. Only one variant is offered, and it comes with leather seats, a dashcam, 360-degree view camera and of course, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support through its 9-inch touchscreen infotainment. It has a 1.5-litre MIVEC, naturally-aspirated petrol engine pushing 105 PS and 141 Nm through a four-speed automatic driving the front wheels.      

Exterior

We get the facelifted version, which means blocky Bi-LED headlights sitting in between the position lights and the round fog lamps. In addition, our Mitsubishi Xpander Malaysia has a shark fin antenna, L-shaped LED combination rear lights and 16-inch wheels.

The Mitsubishi Xpander Malaysia measures 4,475 x 1,750 x 1,730 mm (length x width x height).  Its wheelbase is 2,775 mm.

Lighting

Bi-LED headlights, halogen positioning lights and fog lamps. Round the back there’s a set of L-shaped LED-combination rear lights and a rear fog light.

Interior

It’s a practical car, with lots of spaces to organise your stuff. There’s a cargo box, big centre console, rear air-cond vents and a two-tier boot floor.  

Dashboard

There’s a four-inch multi-info display in between analogue dials, and there’s also a two-tiered glove box. 

Space

It seats seven comfortably, with adequate head and legroom. The second- and third-row seats fold flat as well to allow you to keep more stuff.

Boot

Boot space is a maximum 1,630 litres when the second- and third-row seats are folded flat. With the third-row seat up, it is 495 litres.

Two airbags, ABS w/ EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, cruise control, brake assist (BA), active stability control (ASC), hill start assist (HSA).

Comfort

Standard leather seats, four air-cond vents for rear passengers and storage spaces. 

Infotainment

9-inch touchscreen headunit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, blaring music through 6-speakers.

 

Powertrain

1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated, MIVEC engine making 105 PS and 141 Nm.  Fuel efficiency is a claimed 7 litres/100km. It’s front-wheel drive, and power-to-weight ratio for the Xpander is a respectable 84 PS-per-tonne.

Transmission

The Mitsubishi Xpander Malaysia gets a four-speed automatic transmission. 

Chassis

There is electric power steering, disc brakes in front and drum brakes behind. Suspension are MacPherson struts in front and a torsion beam at the rear.
