Kia Optima– Overview

The all-new Kia Optima is mechanically similar to the all-new Hyundai Sonata that share a similar platform, powertrain options, and other less obvious equipment, but they're endowed with different personalities. Kia has revealed the all-new Kia Optima gets several powertrain options and new technologies, some of which are said to be first for the vehicle and equipped with Normal, Smart, Sport, and Custom driving modes that alter settings for the transmission, steering, and engine.

A lightweight yet robust steel structure N3 platform which is longer, lower, wider, and stronger, built on an all-new Kia Optima platform that secure passenger safety. The first impressions matter a lot and the all-new Kia Optima's design and radicalizes it with a sleek fastback profile with revolutionary changes and the interior takes an evolutionary approach compares with its rivals Honda Accord, Mazda 6 and Toyota Camry.

Kia Optima - Exterior

The "tiger nose grille" become accustomed longer and leaner with a fierce look. The narrow headlights stretch from the grille outward towards the corners of the front bumper and outlined by the zigzag running lights that merge into Kia's "tiger nose" and the front fenders.

The hood and side surfaces are creased for extra character and the chrome strip runs congruent with the sweeping roofline slopes before crossing the rear pillar. It creates a fastback profile finishes with provocative full-width taillights that span aggressively into the rear of the car. The new car is 50 mm longer, 25 mm wider, and is 20 mm shorter than the ongoing model. Also, the wheelbase is up by 45 mm, making the cabin spacious than before.

The revolutionary interior design opted for an uncomplicated layout with rich-looking materials of a modernized steering wheel and a piano-black bezel that houses a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that transform with the drive modes and a 10.3-inch touchscreen with music streaming support for multiple devices and five USB ports located strategically for the convenience of usage.The cool ambient interior lighting on the doors and dash with sleek panoramic sunroof and acoustic glass are both are both standard equipment; and the nifty air-purification system will boost the atmosphere.

The heated and ventilated front seats, head-up display, plush leather upholstery comes as standard and a wireless phone charging pad that helps to stay connected on the road. Plenty of spots to store small items in the centre console except for narrow door pockets and back seats with generous legroom. The boot space can accommodate 510 litre of storage space

The all-new Kia Optima equipped with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist designed to help detect a potential collision and automatically apply the brakes in a variety of circumstances and the front camera and radar can detect vehicles when turning at intersections, helping you avoid collisions.

Smart Cruise Control with Highway Driving Assist that automatically adjusts to maintain the driver’s pre-set speed and to keep a safe distance from the vehicle traveling directly ahead and the Highway Driving Assist (HDA) can control the vehicle’s steering with lane centering, acceleration and deceleration functions.

The parking collision avoidance and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) system detects a potential hazard crossing where it activates the audio and visual warnings and possible braking intervention. Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist-Rear helps to detect vehicles at the blind spot in certain situations during change lanes and may apply the brakes to help mitigate a collision.

Base cars will get an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 10.25-inch unit touch-sensitive zones around the screen puts control at fingertips with standard Android Auto™ and wireless Apple CarPlay®. With UVO Connected Routing available with real-time traffic data, start the car and pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin through UVO link app or online portal.

A premium Bose sound system with 12 speakers surrounding the cabin to give a perfect driving soundtrack. Wireless charging for your smartphone and natural voice recognition tech for things like turning on the HVAC and for the first time, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be wireless on a Kia—but not on the upgraded 10.25-inch display, puzzlingly.

Kia Optima - Powertrain 

In terms of engines, the Optima is offered with a Smartstream 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 180 PS at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. There’s also a 2.0 litre MPI unit (152 PS and 192 Nm), 2.0 litre with CVVL (160 PS and 196 Nm) and a 2.5 litre GDi engine (194 PS and 246 Nm).

The K5 GT gets the most powerful engine in the range, a 2.5 litre T-GDi that outputs 290 PS and 422 Nm. The previous hybrid powertrain options will also be available in selected markets. All engines are paired with six- or eight-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.5 litre T-GDi is available with a new eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. For the first time, the all-new Kia Optima will also have the option of an all-wheel drive system as an alternative to the standard front-wheel drive.

Kia Optima - Ride Comfort

The all-new Kia Optima provides a pleasant experience that is highlighted by steady handling and a quiet ride. There was minimal road noise and no structural vibrations and easy to manoeuvre through tightly packed streets thanks to its relaxed but reactive steering and its soft brake pedal.
