Proton X50 test drive on Sepang 💥
28
Ahead of the 2020 Proton X50’s launch, Proton has organised a media test drive. During the event, En. Noor Hisham Ismail, Vehicle Chief Engineer, stated that the X50’s engines were subjected to 1.9 million km and 75,000 man hours of local road testing.
The 1.5-litre engine is a product of CEVT, a joint venture of Geely and Volvo. And to paint a picture of how far 1.9 million km is, it is enough to circumnavigate the earth more than 40 times over. Also, the engine is currently being deployed in over 550,000 cars worldwide.
One of the biggest concerns of a 3-cylinder engine is vibration. Proton has revealed the measures to counteract it with use of silent high-pressure fuel pump, injector with anti-vibration design, high stiffness engine block and oil pan, low-noise timing belt, with sound and vibration dampeners.
The 2020 Proton X50 is now open for booking. There are two 3-cylinder engine options – a 1.5-litre MPI making 150 PS/226 Nm and a 1.5-litre DI that makes 177 PS/250 Nm.
