All-new 2023 Honda CR-V launched in Thailand, now with 185 PS, 335 Nm e:HEV hybrid

Merely months after the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V was spotted in Thailand, the company has just revealed the new C-segment SUV in the Kingdom.

The turbocharged 1.5-litre variants are codenamed RY, while the hybrid variants get the RS codename.

For Thailand, Honda will be offering 5 variants of the all-new 2023 CR-V:

  • CR-V 1.5 Turbo E 2WD 5-seater: THB 1,419,000 (~RM 186k)
  • CR-V 1.5 Turbo ES 2WD 5-seater: THB 1,599,000 (~RM 210k)
  • CR-V 1.5 Turbo EL 4WD 7-seater: THB 1,649,000 (~RM 217k)
  • CR-V 2.0 e:HEV ES 4WD 5-seater: THB 1,589,000 (~RM 209k)
  • CR-V 2.0 e:HEV RS 4WD 5-seater: THB 1,729,000 (~RM 227k)

Compared to the previous-generation model, starting prices have gone up by roughly 4.4 percent. One explanation for the bump in price for the Thai-spec car is the discontinuation of the naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre engine, replaced by a more sophisticated (and more expensive) turbocharged 1.5-litre engine.

The standard equipment list for the 2023 Honda CR-V has also grown considerably, as the new SUV now offers the Honda Sensing ADAS suite as a standard fitment for all variants.

In terms of powertrain, the Thai-spec 2023 Honda CR-V’s powertrains have been completely overhauled. Out goes the naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre and 1.6-litre turbodiesel engines, as both engines have been replaced.

Thailand finally gets the CR-V with the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine

The first is the turbocharged 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that does 192 PS and 240 Nm, mated to a CVT-type automatic. While this engine is familiar to us in Malaysia, it is the first time this engine has been fitted to the Thai-spec CR-V.

The CR-V now gets the petrol-electric i-MMD hybrid system

The second engine is also a new unit, in this case Honda’s 2.0-litre two-motor i-MMD full hybrid. Combined system output for the new petrol-electric hybrid is 185 PS and 335 Nm.

Standard equipment for the Thai-spec all-new 2023 Honda CR-V include full LED headlights, LED front fog lights, LED turn signal, keyless entry with push start button, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rear view mirror, power-adjustable front seats, 9-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an 8-speaker sound system.

The top-spec CR-V 2.0 e:HEV RS adds a fair bit more equipment to the mix, such as Active Cornering Lights (ACL), heads-up display, rear fog light, 19-inch alloy wheels, Honda Smart Key card system, 12-speaker Bose sound system, and Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB).

Safety equipment for all variants of the 2023 Honda CR-V include Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-speed Follow (ACC with LSF), and Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN). Airbag count for all variants is now 8, as the all-new CR-V now adds dual knee airbags to the mix.

All but the RS variant get 18-inch alloy wheels

Closer to home, the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V is slated to be launched by Honda Malaysia later this year. It is set to be one of four model launches that HMSB has in store for Malaysians, with the other 3 models being the Honda WR-V, Honda City facelift, and FL5 Honda Civic Type R.
