Locally-assembled 2020 BMW 218i Gran Coupe launched in Malaysia, from RM 211k

After making its rounds around the city, BMW Group Malaysia has launched the 2020 BMW (F44) 2 Series Gran Coupe at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur today. Only one variant is available, the 218i Gran Coupe M Sport which is assembled locally at the Inokom plant in Kulim.

The 218i Gran Coupe starts from RM 211,367 on-the-road, without insurance, and exempt from SST which is valid until 31 December 2020. The F44 shares the same UKL2 modular platform as the F40 1 Series and as such is front-wheel drive.

Powering the lone variant of the local F44 is a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder B38 petrol engine (140 PS/220 Nm) that is paired with a 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission. BMW claims it can go from 0-100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 213 km/h.

The F44 retains a similar love-it-or-hate-it look of the 1 Series with an added boot at the back. However, this isn’t a regular sedan, it’s a Gran Coupe so the side profile has a very sleek and sporty 4-door coupe style complete with frameless doors.

The 218i Gran Coupe M Sport comes equipped with 18-inch Style 819 M Bicolour alloy wheels on run-flat tyres, an M Aerodynamics package, and a front ornamental grille in high-gloss chrome.

Inside, you’re greeted with black Leather Dakota upholstery, M-specific pedals, sport seats for the front occupants, and an M leather steering wheel. The F44 also comes equipped with an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay support, a wireless charging pad, and automatic air-conditioning with dual-zone control.

In terms of driving aids, the 218i Gran Coupe M Sport comes with the following:

  • Lane Change Warning
  • Rear Cross Traffic Warning
  • Rear Collision Warning
  • Lane Departure Warning with active steering intervention
  • Forward Collision Warning with brake intervention

It also comes with cruise control with braking function and auto-parking in the form of BMW’s Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.

The 218i Gran Coupe M Sport is available in 5 colours which are Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Snapper Rock Blue, Storm Bay, and Melbourne Red.

Customers who are interested in the F44 can also book online at RM 1,000. Owners will be able to enjoy 5-year unlimited mileage warranty along with free scheduled service.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr
