New 2023 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4Matic+ is now in Malaysia, from RM 527,888, order one online

The Mercedes-AMG range has always been iconic for its insanely powerful models that never make sense on paper but always caresses the heart. Today, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has updated that line-up with a refresh of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4Matic+.

While Mercedes-Benz is a serial killer for the term “coupe,” the 4-door CLA 45 S is a compelling argument for dismissal of the case. The 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder delivers 421 PS and 500 Nm, rocketing through the century sprint in just 4.1-second courtesy of the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system with AMG Torque Control, topping out at a limited 270 kmh; if equipped with the AMG Driver’s Package.

The AMG Torque Control system sees the rear-axle transmission house two electronically controlled multi-plate clutches, each of which is connected to a driveshaft on the rear axle. This distributes power variably variably not only between the front and rear axles, but also selectively between the left and right rear wheels.

Any AMG model must be identifiable from its exterior and it’s no different here. The new AMG CLA 45 S has an AMG-specific radiator grille with vertical slats, a reshaped front apron and the AMG emblem. Even the headlights were revised with Multibeam LED technology.

If you need to stand out even further, the options of Manufaktur Mountain Grey Magno and Manufaktur Patagonia Red Metallic paint are also available as options.

Standard rollers include 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels aerodynamically optimised and painted in matt black to contrast with the red brake calipers. Both the AMG cross-spoke forged wheels and AMG 5-twin-spoke light alloy wheels in the same size are offered as optional.

It also comes standard with the AMG Night package that finishes selected exterior pieces in high-gloss black. There’s also the optional AMG Night Package II that adds black chrome to selected bits.

For handling purposes, the AMG Aerodynamics package is standard but the AMG Aerodynamics Package Plus is optional.

Inside, you’ll find two 10.25-inch displays that cover the instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen duties. The driver points it in the right direction with new AMG Performance steering wheel with double-spoke design in nappa leather/MICROCUT microfiber while the AMG steering wheel buttons govern with intuitive operating logic for many of the functions.

While controlling the vehicle, the driver is seated in AMG Performance seats and strapped in with red seat belts.

If the engine noises don’t cut it for you, the MBUX and Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos should do the job, with easy syncing to your smartphones via wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Of course, the “Hey Mercedes” voice controls will be your virtual co-pilot.

The AMG Track Pace will be your virtual race engineer. It aids in lap, sector, and acceleration times with selected live telemetry data, allowing the driver to analyse and improve their driving skills on track.

To coincide with its launch, there’s a special limited edition dubbed the AMG Street Style Edition. It sports Manufaktur Mountain Grey Magno paintwork and side foiling with the AMG logo and AMG pattern in the chequered-flag design. The wheels are 19-inch AMG forged wheels in a cross-spoke design.
