The fourth generation Lexus GS was launched in Malaysia in 2012. There were three engines and three trim levels available with a total of six variants to choose from. The Lexus GS was later refreshed in 2016 with a new engine lineup to replace the previous base model. Currently, the Lexus GS is available in the form of GS 300 (formerly GS 200t), GS 350, and GS 300h, and trim levels of Premium, Luxury, and F-Sport.
The Lexus GS was made in mind to go against German rivals such as the BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, and Mercedes Benz E-Class. Prices for the Lexus GS 300 model start at RM 575,000 for Premium, RM 641,000 for Luxury, and RM 656,000 for the top, F-Sport. The more powerful Lexus GS 350 begins from RM 717,000 with the Luxury trim and RM 748,000 in the F-Sport trim. There is a hybrid model in the Lexus GS lineup, the Lexus GS 300h, and you can have one for RM 815,000.
The Lexus GS first entered the luxury E-segment featuring an hourglass-shaped front grille and one-piece headlights the broke tradition from previous models for the front fascia. From the side, the Lexus GS is smooth and looks like a very solid piece of metal with a strong shoulder line running level from the front fender to the rear fender. The rear sports tail lights with LED L-shape stripes, a diffuser insert in the rear valence, and integrated dual exhaust outlets on the rear bumper.
The facelift model gets a reprofiled spindle grille, new headlights with the daytime running lights as a separate L-shape piece on the bumper, and redesigned foglights. The rear gets new clear tail lights with revised graphics and a more prominent diffuser. The F-Sport models get a special front bumper that features a sportier spindle grille.
The different trim levels can be distinguished by the headlights and wheels options. The Premium trim is equipped with self-levelling bi-LED headlights while the higher Luxury and F-Sport trims have Triple L-shape LED headlight. Wheel sizes are 17-inch rims wrapped in 225/50 tyres for the Premium and 18-inch rims donning 235/45 tyres for other trims.

As expected of the Lexus brand, the interior exudes luxury and nothing says luxury like leather, soft-touch plastic, wood panels, which the Lexus GS gets plenty of and an analog clock. The Luxury variant gets an uprated trim for interior and wood on the steering wheel above the base, Premium variant.
The F-Sport gets exclusive special treatment with seats wrapped in F-Sport leather to go with the specific F-Sport trim on the rest of the interior and best of all, an instrument panel with a larger 8″ multi-info digital display. The hybrid Lexus GS 300h gets a sunroof above the rest.
The facelift effect on the interior was minimal with small changes such as a new multi-function steering wheel and new shortcut buttons for the Remote Touch controller. The cruise control function used to be on a stalk behind the steering wheel but is now integrated into the steering wheel. The Lexus GS has a large boot with 520 liter of storage space and surprisingly, the GS 300h model shares the same boot space. It seems that the hybrid equipment did not affect storage.
The facelift for the Lexus GS saw the departure of the 2.5 V6 engine and was replaced by a 2.0 liter turbocharged straight-four engine. The 8AR-FTS engine debuted in the SUV, NX 200t and later was used in other Lexus modeI such as the IS 200t, RX 200t and now, the Lexus GS 200t.
The current lineup is made up of the Lexus GS 200t, Lexus GS 350, and Lexus GS 300h. The Lexus GS 200t, later renamed as Lexus GS 300 makes 241 hp @5,800 rpm and 350 Nm @1,650 rpm from the 2.0 liter turbo engine. Meanwhile, the Lexus GS 350 produces 312 hp @ 6,400 rpm and 380 Nm @4,800 rpm with a bigger engine. Lastly, The Lexus GS 300h gets 220 hp and 300 Nm from the combined powertrain.
These systems monitor vehicle speed and angle of wheels using sensors to adjust suspension, steering, and braking to help enhance turn-in response, rear grip, vehicle control, and cornering agility to achieve higher drive dynamic capability.
In Eco, the throttle mapping, climate control systems, and transmission are adjusted accordingly to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption. Normal mode gains regular air-con performance, but mapping remains similar to Eco mode.
In Sport mode, the throttle mapping and transmission shifting focus on getting the best out of the engine. In addition to the Sport mode, the Sport+ mode adjusts suspension dampening and sharpens steering response to cut body roll and optimize driving dynamics.
The Lexus GS is truly an adaptive luxury sedan with the many driving modes available. When you fancy a trip down to the local stores, the Eco and Normal mode suit the occasion. Turn on the Sport or Sport+ mode on empty roads and the Lexus GS will drive entirely different. Now the throttle will be more sensitive and transmission will rev higher. Drivers will be able to speed while going through a fast corner.
For those who fancy a more environmentally friendly stance, the Lexus GS 300h will satisfy your needs. The hybrid model takes 9.2 seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h and has a lower top speed of 190 km/h. When compared to the other two models, the Lexus GS 300h is much slower but then again, nobody buys the hybrid model for speed and performance.
Meanwhile, the Luxury trim and hybrid model both have an 18-way power adjustment instead and memory function. Finally, the F-Sport trim receives a combination of a 16-way adjustment for the driver and a 10-way adjustment for the passenger.
A luxurious car that is comfortable and could switch into a performance, sporty car on demand within seconds is truly the best of both worlds. It is no wonder the Lexus GS is adored by many and is one the best looking models in the Lexus lineup.
