Owner Review: A C-Segment Sedan with D-Segment Space – The Joy of Owning a Honda Civic

Say hello to the facelifted 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace! Wolfsburg's best-selling model now comes with a suite of updates inside and out, complementing its sharper styling with more safety and interior updates too.
Cosmetic updates start from the front, with the Tiguan Allspace receiving a sharper front fascia that's reminiscent of the Golf Mk8 - complete with Matrix LED headlights, a broader grille, and a chunkier front bumper.
Moving on to the sides, every variant of the Allspace now gets new wheels, ranging from 17-inch to 20-inch alloy wheels designs.
Changes round the back include a new tail light signature, refreshed rear bumper with integrated trapezoidal exhaust tips, as well as centred 'Tiguan' lettering across the bootlid.
Capping off these key exterior choices are eight colours, with Oryx White and Kings Red Metallic being new.
The interior gets an overhaul too, with new seat covers, door panels, and the extermination of physical buttons - the air-conditioning system controls are now touch-sensitive sliders, replacing the old car's rotary knobs and buttons.
The slides extend to the steering wheel as well. Sorry, purists.
Beyond that, the 8-inch Digital Cockpit instrument cluster is standard, along with the company's MIB3 infotainment system. Wireless charging, and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay are standard fitments.
Other features include up to 15-colour ambient lighting, powered driver and passenger seats, panoramic sunroof, and an electric tailgate.
VW's IQ.DRIVE suite of advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) makes its way to the refreshed Tiguan Allspace, encapsulating these features:
The facelift also introduces Travel Assist, a semi-autonomous driving mode that can control the 7-seater's steering, throttle, as well as brakes.
Powertrain options remain the same across the board. Depending on markets, there are several engine choices - starting from a 1.5-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder, a 2.0-litre that's shared with the Golf GTI, and a couple of diesel mills too.
The facelifted Tiguan Allspace will hit North American dealerships in July this year, and deliveries in Europe are reportedly beginning in October.
Right-hand drive cars will come later, and remember ours will be locally-assembled (CKD), so it will require a longer lead time before we see it here.
For now, us Malaysians can still buy the pre-facelift model. Recent updates to the range includes new 18-inch wheels for the Highline, USB-C ports, as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
