The 2022 VW Tiguan Allspace has been refreshed but will still be its all-conquering seller from RM 175k

Leading the charge as Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia's (VPCM) all-conquering seller, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has been given its mandatory midlife refresh in a sleeker façade for the 2 variants; a Tiguan Allspace Elegance and a Tiguan R-Line 4Motion. If you're wondering where the previous Tiguan Allspace Highline went, it's been reincarnated as the Elegance pictured here.

Both models will be locally-assembled CKD units from VPCMs plant in Pekan, Pahang, and be priced as follows (excluding SST, valid until 30 June 2022) with three years free maintenance, five years unlimited mileage warranty and five years roadside assistance tacked on:

• Tiguan Allspace Elegance – RM 174,745 
• Tiguan Allspace R-Line 4Motion – RM 219,443

For the good looks and some extra kit tossed in, that represents a bump up of RM 9,715 for the Elegance over the Highline and a pinch more at RM 9,868 over the older R-Line 4Motion.

A tweaked front end now carries a sharper, more elegant grille and bumper combo with stretched LED headlights to blend in. The rear houses the signature LED illuminated light strip with the “Tiguan” lettering on the rear and the new Volkswagen logo between the LED taillights.

Inside, there’s a larger new generation 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with voice control as well as inbuilt navigation. Unique to the R-Line 4 Motion though is an off-road display with relevant data through the infotainment system. As for the driver, there’s the 11.7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster.

The multifunction steering wheel features haptic-touch controls. Meanwhile the seats have cooling and heating because you know, Malaysians have a need for toasted buns for our tropical climate. However, a saving grace comes in the form of 12-way powered adjustability for the front pair.

Reserved solely for the R-Line 4Motion is a Harman Kardon 480-watt sound system with 10 speakers.

Rounding up the interior kit is the powered tailgate with hands-free operation.

Under the hood, nothing’s changed with a 1.4-litre TSI mill for the Tiguan Allspace Elegance. It’s a punchy 150 PS with 250 Nm of torque to the front wheels via the 6-speed DSG.

Meanwhile, the Tiguan Allspace R-Line 4Motion has the larger 2.0-litre TSI with 220 PS and 350 Nm of torque. This time though it’s fed to all four wheels as the name suggests with the 7-speed DSG.

Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) in the R-Line 4 Motion gets the additional modes of On-road, Off-road, Off-road Expert and Snow together with the regular Eco, Normal, Sport and Individual.

Safety comprises the basic six airbags (seven for the R-Line 4Motion), stability control, ABS, BA and multi-collision brakes. Active safety is in the form of Lane Assist and Driver Alert whereas the Allspace 4Motion gets hill-descent control.

You can get your new Tiguan in any colour so long as it’s from the five available; Atlantic Blue, Oryx White, Deep Black, Platinum Grey and Pyrite Silver.
