Bigger than yours, all-new Civic-based 2023 Honda HR-V's boot space shown in latest teaser for USA

The all-new 2023 Honda HR-V bound for America will be looking very much different from the ones sold overseas (and arriving in Malaysia soon). Following its exterior reveal, Honda USA has just recently teased the crossover’s cabin.

Based on the Civic FE, the North American-spec HR-V is bigger and wider than its global counterpart. Besides the platform, another ethos shared with the Civic is the interior design philosophy which Honda calls “Simplicity and Something”.

Honda hasn’t revealed the full interior just yet but there is a glimpse of the dashboard in one of the photos showing the HR-V’s rear space versatility. Based on that, it appears that the American HR-V could have a similar dashboard design as the Civic FE.

Perhaps the honeycomb mesh-incorporated air vents that are one of the highlights of the Civic’s interior could be carried over into this HR-V. Ditto the illuminating climate control knobs. So, no L-shaped vents then?

Besides, another key difference would be the design of the centre console which on the North America-bound HR-V is given a pass-through design. This design is similar to the outgoing HR-V.

Can they fit it? Probably

The Civic-based HR-V is expected to be launched as early as the middle of 2022 but it won’t just be restricted to America and Canada. Honda announced that it will be launched in Europe albeit as a hybrid only and will slot between the existing HR-V and CR-V in the Big H’s SUV line-up.

Unlike the overseas model, the North American HR-V utilizes an independent rear suspension setup. Still, Honda has yet to reveal the powertrains that will be offered for its popular crossover but it’s likely to be shared with the Civic. Recall that the Civic is available with the following:

  • Naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre i-VTEC (158 PS/187 Nm)
  • Turbocharged 1.5-litre VTEC (180 PS/240 Nm)
  • 2.0-litre i-MMD hybrid (184 PS/315 Nm)
