2020 VW Tiguan Allspace launched in Malaysia, 7 seats, up to 220 PS, from RM 164k

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has just launched the new 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. Two variants are available – the 1.4-litre Highline and the 2.0-litre R-Line. The Tiguan Allspace is locally-assembled (CKD) in Pekan. The 7-seater Tiguan Allspace competes with other 7-seater SUVs including the Mitsubishi Outlander and Mazda CX-8.

Prices shown doesn't include SST

Prices start from RM 164,430 for the Tiguan Allspace Highline while the Tiguan Allspace R-Line is priced from RM 208,553. Both prices are on-the-road, without insurance and SST free.

What are the variants available?

Separating the Tiguan Allspace Highline and R-Line is the powertrain – the Highline is powered by the same 1.4 TSI engine as the smaller, regular 5-seater Tiguan that produces 150 PS with a torque of 250 Nm.

Meanwhile the R-line is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine that is also found in the Golf GTi. That engine produces 220 PS and 350 Nm. The Highline variant is mated to a 6-speed DSG while the R-Line variant is mated to a 7-speed DSG. The 5-seater Tiguan is only available in a single variant, which is the Highline.

The Tiguan Allspace R-Line is marketed as a performance SUV. Besides the higher power output and higher ratio gearbox, the R-Line also comes with 4Motion all-wheel drive and Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) which allows drivers to personalize their own driving style.

How much bigger is the Tiguan Allspace?

What makes the Tiguan Allspace stand out from its 5-seater brother is the length. It is after all a long-wheelbase Tiguan, with the wheelbase increased by 110 mm (2,791 mm). The length has been increased to 4,704 mm which is 215 mm longer than the regular Tiguan.

The increased length of the Tiguan Allspace also gives a boost of space. With the third-row seats folded, boot space is up to 700 litres, but with both rear seats folded down cargo space is increased to 1,775 litres - the best in class.

What are the features?

Standard equipment on both variants of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace include:

  • LED headlights
  • LED taillights
  • Front and rear foglamps
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • Park Assist
  • 3-zone climate control
  • Leather seats
  • Electrically adjustable driver seat
  • Power tailgate
  • Rear-view camera
  • Cruise control

In terms of safety, the Tiguan Allspace is pretty lacking with ADAS being absent in both variants. The safety features that are as standard on both Tiguan Allspace variants are:

  • 6 airbags
  • Electronic stability control
  • Cruise control with speed limiter
  • Hill hold control

Tiguan Allspace R-Line

The Tiguan Allspace is available in 5 different colours which are Pure White, Deep Black, Blue Silk, Platinum Grey, and Pyrite Silver.

Tiguan Allspace Highline

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is also sold in Indonesia and India. The Indonesian Tiguan Allspace shares nearly the same spec as the Malaysian Tiguan Allspace. However, the Indian Tiguan Allspace comes with a 2.0-litre TSI albeit only producing 190 PS.

Both the Highline and R-Line variants are backed by Volkswagen’s 5 years unlimited mileage warranty with 3 years free maintenance.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr
