Chery's Jetour confirmed to launch in Malaysia later this month; first model to be the X70 Plus?

Jetour, a brand under the Chery group, will be making its official Malaysian debut at the Malaysia Autoshow later this month, as revealed in the event's promotional materials.

This is the latest update to the Jetour story, as the brand first set up their local Facebook page in January, though it's been quiet since then.

So what's Jetour? Haven't they already got Jaecoo?

They may sound similar, but the recipes are different. Jaecoo is more premium upmarket, though Jetour is focused on lifestyle-centric vehicles, alongside regular SUVs.

Jetour's model range are so far only limited to left-hand drive (LHD) markets, though two models stand out – the X70 Plus, the brand's first-ever right-hand drive (RHD) car, and the Dashing to follow soon after.

Local press have confirmed these two models to launch in Indonesia, so it's not quite a stretch to imagine them eventually making their way to Malaysia.

Powertrain specifications haven't been shared just yet, though they're mechanically similar to Chery/Jaecoo offerings: both these models share the same 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre, and 2.0-litre turbocharged engines plus DCT combo from the Chery Omoda 5, Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro, and Jaecoo J7.

More details will be announced in due time. The Malaysia Autoshow runs from 22- to 26-May 2024, from 10 am to 10 pm at MAEPS Serdang. Tickets are at RM 20 each, though admissions are free for children below 9 years old, senior citizens aged 60 and above, and the differently-abled (OKU).
