From equivalent of RM 120k, Wuling Cloud BEV launched in Indonesia with lifetime warranty

At the PERIKLINDO Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS) in Indonesia, Chinese carmaker Wuling launched its third battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the country. With an introductory price of IDR 410 million (~RM 120k), the Wuling Cloud is a rival against the BYD Dolphin and is offered with a lifetime warranty for the battery, electric motor, and controller.

Assembled (CKD) at Wuling’s Indonesian plant in Cikarang, the Cloud received the highest number of orders among the 5-diamond brand’s BEV trio at PEVS. According to our colleagues at AutoFun ID, 60.7% of orders received were for the Wuling Cloud.

Wuling is also the best-selling BEV brand in Indonesia with a 64% market share in the first quarter of 2024. Besides the Cloud, Wuling also offers the Wuling Air micro BEV and the Wuling Binguo city car BEV.

The Wuling Cloud is known as the Baojun Yunduo in China and is sold under the Baojun badge. Baojun is the sister brand to Wuling under the Chinese state-owned SAIC Motor which also owns the MG marque.

Besides the lifetime warranty, other incentives offered for the Cloud include a complimentary 7-kilowatt wallbox charger, extended free maintenance, and free charging service at selected charging stations for the entire month of May.

The Cloud is only available in Indonesia in one variant which is powered by a 136 PS electric motor on the front axle. This is juiced up by a 50.6-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery and has a claimed maximum range of 460 km.

Even the Myvi is capable of this

The Indo-spec Cloud is also packed with numerous convenience features including a powered tailgate, front seats with 135-degree backseat recline, a wireless charger, rear air-conditioning, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS.

The ADAS features in the Cloud comprise adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning, and AEB.

While the Wuling Cloud seems like a worthy competitor against the BYD Dolphin, the brand is not likely to enter Malaysia. While a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between it and Tan Chong Motor back in 2020, nothing materialised since.

Besides, a subsidiary of Tan Chong is bringing in another Chinese BEV brand to the market. GAC’s Aion was previewed to the media early this year and is listed among the brands participating at the 2024 Malaysia Auto Show happening from 22 to 26 May.

Remember the VW ID.4? Two units were previewed in Malaysia in October 2022, at the VW Fest event. There was no further development (at least not to the public) since, and after several launches by Tesla, BYD, even VW’s sister-brand Audi, the ID.4 was quickly forgotten. A recent post by MITI Minister Tengku Zafrul on his official X account hinted that the VW ID.4 could soon be launched. Zafrul’s post said Volkswagen Group Malaysia’s (VGM) Pekan plant is the first outside of Germany to assemble th
