Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Reviews

Overview

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Overview

With almost 65 years of all-terrain expertise, Land Rover once again introduce their new sub-compact SUV Evoque, to fill the streets. Prior to its launch, the Rover SUVs were surely handsome enough, though being quite a functional and boxy sort of way. After all, Land Rover was mainly known as much about fashion and glamour, than it was off-roading and country estates.

Range Rover Evoque is a posh, small SUV with an upmarket interior and more off-road ability than driver will probably ever need. Many of its desirable high-tech features cost extra, though. The Evoque is a premium SUV that you should consider if you want stylish looks, a high-tech interior and the ability to traipse further off-road.

In fact, this all-new model features some of the fanciest 4×4 tech of any small SUV, which is a bit like wearing all the latest gear for a Himalayas expedition for a stroll to the shops. The new car's styling was also clearly influenced by the pricier Range Rover Velar, particularly from its sleek the front and rear lights. Not to mention, the flush-fitting door handles, which slide out of the doors gracefully when you unlock the car.

aguar Land Rover Malaysia officially launched the the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque luxury compact SUV which comes in two variants: Evoque and Evoque R-Dynamic, priced at RM426,828 and RM475,398 respectively (price is inclusive 50% sales tax waiver excluding car registration, insurance and road tax). A new 2.0 litre Petrol Turbocharged Ingenium engine also has been introduced for both variants.

The twin scroll turbocharged petrol engine P200 produces 200PS and 320Nm of torque for the Evoque, while the Evoque R-Dynamic pushes out 249PS and 365Nm. The lightweight all-aluminium powertrain with latest direct injection technology in the Evoque delivers the maximum efficiency of 11.5 km/l combined mileage, positioning it as the most fuel-efficient Range Rover ever.

Exterior

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque – Exterior

Despite sporting a very muscular stance, Evoque is still probably the most elite and executive vehicle in the Land Rover line up. Broad and beastly look of Land Rover Evoque is the result of precise and dynamic engineering employed on it. From the front, there is a sleek honeycomb radiator grille of Evoque which represent an elegant look of the car.

Unfortunately, from the outside it doesn’t look particularly futuristic. In fact, from side view, this new model looks almost identical to the old Range Rover Evoque even though they only share the same door hinges. Luckily, from the front it looks much more fresh-faced thanks to headlights borrowed from its bigger brother, (the Velar) as well as copper-coloured details in high-spec R-Dynamic guise.

Adaptive signature Xenon headlamps with LED lighting bless the SUV with a very bold appearance. Those premium LED headlights with auto high beam and sequential indicators come as standard, along with 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. The R-Dynamic throws in sportier front and rear bumper designs, vent-like inserts on the bonnet, copper-coloured accents, front fog lights and split-spoke alloys in a turbine design.

Getting reputable image among fans with its distinctive design, Evoque possessed the looks of a modern and urban vehicle. Land Rover surely had done well on the styling. Characteristic cues like the rising beltline, falling roofline, chunky wheel arches and “tails” on the head- and taillights remain, but the surfacing is now cleaner and the lights slimmer, making for a more cohesive look.

The familiar design hides increased space for passengers and luggage. The dimensions themselves are mostly identical (the new Evoque is only slightly wider and taller than before), but the wheelbase has been stretched by 21 mm. This not only increases rear legroom but also makes the boot 10% larger at 591 litres.

Driving Performance

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Driving Performance

Composed and planted when cruising, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque performed well on twisty roads; (accurate, well-weighted steering compliments the suspension's agility). There's a fair bit of body lean but no shortage of grip. The steering is also appropriately responsive – not too slow but not so quick that the car feels twitchy. The car is surely quick yet easy to drive.

esides, the Evoque’s 2.0-litre petrol engines are impressively refined at low revs. As for cruising ability, the Evoque generates a lot less road noise with minimum wind noise, although you can hear the suspension working away along rough roads surface.

The automatic gearbox is far better calibrated than when it first turned up in the last Evoque. It’s even plays co-operatively when you use the paddle shifters.
The ride is not as soft as big Range Rover's or Discovery's, but it is pliable and takes away most of the harshness. Switching between damper modes helps a subtle difference, and in fact auto mode is the best calibrated.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the latest Range Rover Evoque has taken a big leap forward over the old model, adding fresh styling, up-to-date technology with generous list of standard equipment. Not only the Range Rover Evoque’s looks may piqued on users’ interest, but it is a fine car on more objective levels too. It is good to drive, really posh inside and even reasonably practical by class standards. Though being one of the more expensive cars in the same class, but slow depreciation means owners should get a lot from it.
