Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Myanmar subsidiary, Suzuki Thilawa Motor will be constructing a new plant.
Located in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, the new plant is scheduled to go online from September 2021.
Despite selling just 4 models – Carry, Ciaz, Ertiga, and Swift, Suzuki Myanmar has managed to capture a whopping 60.3% of the market, with 13,206 units sold.
The new plant is capable of outputting 40,000 units annually. Considering Myanmar’s annual total industry volume of roughly 20,000 units, it’s safe to assume that the plant is able to cater for export demand.
This is Suzuki's fourth plant in the region - they already have an older plant in Myanmar, one in Thailand, and one in Indonesia.
Closer to home, Suzuki is expected to return to Malaysia under the Naza Group of Companies.
