Singapore first in ASEAN to launch the all-new 2021 Honda Jazz

A couple of days ago, Kah Motor, the official distributor of Honda vehicles in Singapore, launched the all-new 2021 Honda Jazz, marking the first country in the ASEAN region to receive the new B-segment hatchback.

As reported earlier, three variants are offered in Singapore, namely the Jazz 1.5 Base, Jazz 1.5 Home, and Jazz 1.5 Luxe e:HEV.

Starting with the 1.5 Base and 1.5 Home variants, they are powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that delivers 121 PS and 145 Nm, paired to a CVT-type automatic transmission – similar to our Malaysian-spec Honda City and upcoming Honda City Hatchback.

As for the Jazz 1.5 Luxe e:HEV, it gets Honda’s trick i-MMD petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. In the case of the Jazz (and Malaysian-spec City RS), it’s the traction motor that drives the vehicle most of the time, with 253 Nm of torque generated by the 109 PS traction motor.

The naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine only kicks in to either drive the generator to provide extra power for the traction motor, or to drive the front wheels directly during high-speed cruising. The petrol engine may bypass the electric motor via a clutch.

Honda claims that the regular petrol Jazz returns 5.7-litre/100 km, while the e:HEV variant returns 3.8-litre/100 km.

All variants of the all-new Honda Jazz are fitted with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Both the 1.5 Base and 1.5 Home variants get a 4-speaker sound system, while the 1.5 Luxe e:HEV bumps the speaker count up to eight.

The 1.5 Luxe e:HEV is also the only variant to receive the updated Honda Sensing ADAS suite. Despite that, all variants are fitted with six airbags.

Prices start at SGD 98,999 for the Jazz 1.5 Base, while the Jazz 1.5 Home is priced at SGD 101,999. The range-topping Jazz 1.5 Luxe e:HEV goes for SGD 103,999. While parallel importers in Singapore do offer the Japanese-market Honda Fit at a cheaper price (SGD 80,000 to SGD 82,000), these units come with a smaller 1.3-litre engine.

Apart from the smaller engine, parallel imported Honda Fits also come with Japanese language vehicle controls – a similar issue that is also present in Japanese recond cars sold in Malaysia.

For those holding their breaths for the arrival of the all-new Honda Jazz in Malaysia, don't, as the Honda City Hatchback will be filling the void left by the GK5-generation Jazz.
