Video: Fixing our Ativa’s rattling problem again. Fixed for good? – Long Term review #11

Another Hari Raya has passed with all of us having to adhere to the MCO. Although an opportunity to show off Cik Tiva to friends & family has been missed, we still decided to get her fixed up before the end of Ramadan.

And what is it that we wanted to fix? The rattling sound that has reappeared in the rear right corner.

So, we’ve informed Perodua again about this issue, and they were quick to arrange an appointment for us.

And just like before, Perodua had sent their experts from Perodua HQ to fix the problem.

The problem is still in the drum brake

The source of the problem still remains to be the rear right drum brake, so at least it reduced the need for troubleshooting the whole car.

This problem had been fixed previously by tightening the brake shoe, but it seems to have come back to haunt us.

What’s bothering us is the sound of a loose part rattling in the rear right corner of the car every time we drive over sharp irregularities on the road (e.g., road patch, pot holes, and rumble strips).

Half a day of waiting

The wait was longer than last time (more than half a day), but with Jason and Furqan (our video guy) around, it was more bearable.

While chilling on the outdoor chairs at the service centre, we saw the technicians going for at least five test drives to make sure the problem was fixed. Each time with 4 adults in the car.

It was basically "fix, test drive, repeat" for Cik Tiva the entire day.

We have no idea how many times Cik Tiva was hoisted in that single day

Having seen so much effort by the Perodua guys to solve our problem, I really wish our next visit would only be for a regular service appointment.

It was the month of Ramadhan too, so we really appreciate the lengths the Perodua people have gone to, to ensure Cik Tiva was in good shape.

We’ve been told that brake shoe has been tightened again, but with some extra steps this time.

Was it worth the wait?

Here's Jason to tell you how it all went:

So, after half a day of tinkering, the sound was gone. Thank goodness.

We drove over many bumps, crests, and potholes, we’re happy to say that the Ativa feels like it’s just rolled off the showroom floor once again. Good stuff.

Brings back memories

We’ve reached over 5,000 km with Cik Tiva now since this video was recorded (4,000+ km), and the sound has not reappeared. So far, we’ll say it was worth the wait.

We’re hoping the sound never comes back, and we appreciate the much more “peaceful” ride the Ativa has right now.

Is this special treatment?

Now, I know what some of you are thinking. We’re getting special treatment by Perodua just because of our internet clout.

Some would assume that had Cik Tiva belonged to a customer with no internet points, Perodua wouldn't have addressed the issue as attentively.

We don't go around asking for free stuff

Well, speaking from my personal experience as a nobody, I have complained about my very own Perodua Axia’s squeaky windows, 6 months into my ownership.

And I'll have you know that the Perodua service centres I consulted (Subang Airport and PJ 222) were just as attentive at solving my problem. Of course, no HQ people were involved in my personal case.

My point is, Perodua will not brush off your dissatisfactions with your car just because you're an insignificant speck in their abundant customer base.

To many more adventures with Cik Tiva

So, that's all for this week's update for WapCar's Perodua Ativa. Problem fixed for the second time. We're hopeful it won't happen again.

What's coming up next? Well, we’ve had the chance to compare our Perodua Ativa next to a Perodua Myvi recently.

Stay tuned for that.

The use of the term service tax is also causing a
