Watch: Can the 2022 Honda Civic FE beat the Corolla and Mazda 3 in a drag race?

But how will it cope against its two rivals, the Toyota Corolla and the Mazda 3, in a quarter-mile drag race? Well, the boys over at Throttle House did just that in one of their recent videos on the all-new Civic.

The three C-segment sedans are pitted against each other in their highest trims. The Mazda 3 is the most powerful and torquiest at 186 PS and 252 Nm produced from its naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre Skyactiv engine which isn't offered in Malaysia.

This is followed by the Civic with 180 PS and 240 Nm coming out from its turbocharged 1.5-litre VTEC engine. Rounding up the trio is the Corolla with its naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre Dynamic Force engine producing 169 PS and 205 Nm.

Enough about the numbers and let’s just head on to the drag race. On paper, the Mazda 3 does sound like it has the upper hand and if you’re placing bets on the Mazda 3 to win, you’d be right.

The secret to the Civic's success?

That is until last few metres of the race when the Civic picks up and beats the Mazda 3. Maybe the laptop on the passenger seat trick somehow worked? The turbocharged Civic takes the win in the first round.

On to the next race and this time all 3 cars are competing in a rolling race. Just like in the drag race, the more powerful Mazda pulls away in the lead. This time though, the Mazda kept its lead all the way until the finish line.

So, to answer the title of this article, yes. The 2022 Honda Civic can beat the Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla in a drag race, but only just. However, if you want to be a winner in a rolling race, go for the Mazda.

Great. When can Malaysians experience this?

Though the model has been spotted testing in Thailand and it has been teased on Honda Singapore’s website, we can’t really say when will the Civic FE be making its way into Malaysia.

Though Honda Malaysia has hinted that the all-new Civic could be launched as early as this year, that seems very much unlikely.

With MCO 3.0 underway and production in Thailand – the region’s ‘mother plant’, still under wraps, we could very much see the all-new Civic to be launched in 2022.
