New vs Old: All-new 2021 Nissan X-Trail vs old model

A few days ago, Nissan introduced the all-new 2021 Nissan X-Trail. The Nissan X-Trail is sold as the Nissan Rogue in North America.

Let’s take a closer look at the differences.

Exterior – More macho than before

Unlike the suave lines of the T32-generation X-Trail, the all-new T33 X-Trail takes a more rugged and muscular approach.

Although the all-new T33 X-Trail is built on the same CMF-CD platform like the outgoing T32-generation model, you can’t tell as the exterior has been completely revamped.

Gone are the regular-looking headlights, now replaced with a new two-tier design that was spearheaded by the Juke, flanking a redesigned V-Motion and a larger Nissan emblem.

The rear-end is also all-new – the T33 X-Trail gains a large number plate recess that gives the impression of a wider rear-end.

Interior – Nissan goes upmarket

The interior of the T32-generation X-Trail wasn’t ground-breaking by any means – it served its purpose well, but it is a little long in the tooth.

Nissan has remedied that with the T33 model, as it now gets a completely revised interior that boasts a large 9.0-inch infotainment display and a full digital instrument cluster.

The faux stitching on the predecessor model’s dashboard has been replaced with what appears to be actual stitching.

More importantly, the all-new T33 X-Trail gains features such as memory seats, a heads-up display, and a shift-by-wire gear lever, all of which were never offered on the outgoing model.

Under the skin – New engine with more power

Powering the all-new T33 Nissan X-Trail is a 2.5-litre petrol engine lifted from the US market Nissan Altima. Codenamed PR25DD, the engine does 183 PS and 245 Nm, mated to a CVT-type automatic transmission.

No other powertrains were announced during the debut of the all-new X-Trail, though Nissan could introduce new powertrains at a later date.

When can we expect the all-new Nissan X-Trail in Malaysia?

Edaran Tan Chong Motor, the distributor of Nissan vehicles in Malaysia introduced the facelifted T32-generation X-Trail back in March 2019.

 As such, the all-new X-Trail may not arrive here until 2022.
