Perodua announces March 2022 sales; all but confirms D27A Perodua Alza's launch

Lest we forget, Perodua is associated with Toyota under the UMW Group’s automotive division. That translates into a stellar few months for the group as sales for both brands surged ahead. More importantly, a statement by the group addressing this also let the cat out of the bag that Perodua will be launching some new models this year, one of which will surely be the new Alza.

The group on a whole delivered 35,246 units in March 2022, a 48 percent bump up than the 23,853 units sold in February 2022.

Perodua’s sales accounted for 26,759 units of that number in March 2022, a 54 percent climb than the 17,421 units in February 2022. That adds up to 61,624 units in the first quarter of 2022, or 6 percent better than the corresponding period in 2021.

As a result, Perodua has already achieved 25 percent of its sales target for the year of, 247,800 units. This was led by the facelifted Myvi, followed by the Axia and Bezza. Perodua also continues to work with its suppliers to address the component supply chain issues and reduce the waiting period for customers with orders pending.

As for that cat out of the bag? Well, that was courtesy of the group’s CEO.

“We are pleased with the improved sales registered by both UMWT and Perodua in March 2022, supported by the strong order book. Both companies are on track to achieve their sales target for the year and are ramping-up production based on the available capacity to expedite the delivery of vehicles to our customers. Furthermore, both companies plan to introduce several all-new and facelift models this year to drive sales and achieve their targets. We wish to express our appreciation to our customers for their strong support of our products and services,” said UMW Holdings Berhad President and Group CEO, Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali.

The Alza will definitely be replaced this year with an all-new model to be based on the new Daihatsu Xenia that’s already broken cover in Indonesia. While that will likely mean that the new Alza; if it retains the name, will start at a higher price, it also promises more features and more advanced safety tech such as ADAS in certain variants.

Toyota on the other hand contributed 8,487 units in March 2022, a 32 percent increase. That’s sold 22,447 units for the first quarter or a 31 percent bump up over the same period in 2021. Unsurprisingly, the top-sellers were the Hilux, Vios, Corolla Cross and Yaris.
