At the sides of Perodua’s business review earlier today, they have confirmed that the all-new 2022 Perodua Alza will be launching later this year.
Earlier, we reported that Perodua initially planned to cease production of the outgoing Alza – a model that’s currently 12 years old – by end-January, but that is no longer the case.
Production of the outgoing Alza, according to Perodua's CEO and President Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad, will be extended till end-April, partly due to high number of outstanding orders carried over from last year.
He also said that it will be a seamless transition between the old model and the all-new one, hinting that the all-new one will likely arrive in May. The Perodua Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd (PMSB) plant has been upgraded to manufacture DNGA-based models.
Codenamed D27A, the all-new Perodua Alza is a twin model to the equally-new Toyota Avanza, mirroring a similar arrangement like the Perodua Aruz and Toyota Rush.
As such, it gets the same powertrain option as the Avanza: a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre 2NR-VE petrol engine that outputs 106 PS and 136 Nm. Out goes the dated 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission, as it has been superseded by a more sophisticated Dual-mode CVT (D-CVT).
Judging from Perodua’s current line-up, it is also fair to say that the all-new Alza will get an extensive list of safety equipment. Six airbags, stability control, and the ASA ADAS suite are a given.
But that’s not all – word on the grapevine is that the all-new Perodua Alza could be the first Perodua model to offer support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay – way ahead of Proton.
