2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV revealed – the S-Class of electric SUVs with up to 7 seats

This is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. Think of it as the S-Class of electric SUVs. It’s based on the dedicated EV modular platform (EVA2) that also underpins the EQS Sedan and EQE.

Compared to the EQS Sedan, the EQS SUV is said to offer the space of an SUV and seats up to seven.

The new EQS SUV shares the long wheelbase (3,210 mm) with the EQS Sedan, but is over 20 cm higher, measuring 5,125 mm long, 1,959 mm wide, 1,718 mm tall. Mercedes boasts high aerodynamic efficiency with its smooth underbody and closed front grille.

The chassis of the new EQS SUV has a four-link at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear. Air suspension with continuously adjustable damping ADS+ is standard equipment.

In addition to the Dynamic Select modes Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual, the 4Matic versions feature Offroad, a further mode for off-road driving. Furthermore, rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees is standard to improve manoeuvrability around town. 

As for the electric propulsion system, there are three variants available at its point of introduction - EQS 450+, EQS 450 4Matic, and EQS 580 4Matic.

The EQS 450+ has a single electric motor mounted at the rear axle (rear-wheel drive) with 360 PS/568 Nm while all-wheel drive variants – the EQS 450 4Matic and EQS 580 4Matic get dual motors with 360 PS/800 Nm and 544 PS/858 Nm respectively.

All variants have a 107.8 kWh battery pack, identical to the EQS Sedan, that allows a driving range up to 660 km range in the rear-wheel drive EQS 450+ and 613 km for both the all-wheel drive variants. 

The on-board charger allows up to 22 kW AC charging while maximum DC charging is rated at 200 kW, capable of replenishing the from 10 to 80 percent in 31 minutes.

Inside, it’s virtually identical to the EQS Sedan with the optional MBUX Hyperscreen, a massive curved screen that spans the entire width of the dashboard.

The 12.3-inch OLED display for the front passenger gives them their own display and control area. A third row of seats is available as an option for the EQS SUV.

As for advanced safety assistance systems, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV gets:

  • Active Distance Assist Distronic
  • Blind Spot Assist and exit warning function
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist
  • Active Steering Assist
  • Evasive Steering Assist
  • Active Blind Spot Assist and exit warning function
  • Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function
