2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS now on MBM's site
EQS 580 could be offered here
Priced higher than the S580e?
About a month ago, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) announced that they will be launching two electric vehicles (EVs) this year.
The first EV to be launched by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA, which made its debut here exactly a week ago, priced from RM 278,201.
As for the second EV, it could very well be the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS, as the flagship EV has been spotted on MBM’s official website, with a link for potential buyers to register their interest.
Which variant will be offered in Malaysia?
Globally, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS is available with several electric motor options, ranging from 292 PS in the EQS 350 all the way up to 761 PS in the AMG EQS 53.
For Malaysia, seeing that it will be MBM’s flagship EV, chances are we could be getting the EQS 580. This variant does 523 PS and 855 Nm, juiced by a massive 107.8 kWh battery pack.
Performance figures aside, Mercedes-Benz said that the EQS 580 offers a range of up to 676 km under the WLTP test cycle.
It would also mirror the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in Malaysia, as it is offered in the sole S580e variant.
Regionally, Thailand has confirmed that it will be locally-assembling (CKD) the EQS later this year. Although our colleagues at Autofun Thailand have previewed the model there, prices have yet to be announced.
For comparison, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S580e is priced from RM 698,744. Being MBM’s flagship EV, the EQS 580 could be priced around that ballpark, if not slightly higher.
Furthermore, whether MBM decides to import the EQS from Thailand or Germany remains to be seen for now.
