UMW Group sold 32k cars in April 2022; Perodua sales to be boosted by all-new Alza, facelifted models

The UMW Group maintained its healthy sales momentum last month, as the Group - made of up Perodua and UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) - delivered 32,600 units in April 2022 alone.

Perodua, naturally, was the star of the pair with 25,654 units sold in April 2022, buoyed by the Myvi, Axia, and Bezza.

Though sales in April were slightly lower than in March (26,759 units then), Perodua sold 87,278 units in the first four months of this year, 11.5 percent better than the 78,308 units registered in the same period of 2021.

The company has set a sales target of 247,800 units for the entirety of 2022, which the company is confident "will be driven by the sales tax exemption as well as introduction of new and facelifted models."

The next-gen Alza will be based on the Xenia

One of those, naturally, will be the all-new 2022 Perodua Alza (D27A). There's lots riding on the Rawang outfit's sole MPV, promising more features and more advanced safety technology in certain variants.

The Toyota Vios GR Sport

Toyota on the other hand contributed 6,946 units in April 2022, a drop from March 2022's 8,487 units. That said, they've sold 29,393 units from January to April 2022, 11.2 percent hgher than the 26,431 units sold in the same period last year.

Topping the best-sellers list for Toyota were the Vios, Yaris, Corolla Cross, and Hilux.

UMW Holdings Berhad President and Group CEO, Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said, “Despite the many headwinds facing the automotive industry, we are pleased with the sales registered by both UMWT and Perodua in April 2022. The persistent supply chain issues have disrupted production in April."
