Reasons why I bought this car

On the eve of welcoming our third child, my wife and I decided we need a sedan/MPV as an upgrade from our 2009 Perodua Myvi. Perodua Bezza was chosen as we have experienced renting it in Sabah during our family trip in 2016.

Car Selection Process

I had a budget of: below RM100,000.00

Models that I’ve considered included : 1.Perodua Alza 2.Honda BR-V 3.Proton Ertiga 4.Toyota Sienta 5.Toyota Vios

As mentioned, we had rented it for a week during our family trip to Sabah. Although we are aware Perodua Bezza is not as agile, spacious and fun to drive compared to our old Myvi, it have a big boot(+400liter),reverse camera, Vehicle Stability Control, leather seat(important if you have kids),push-start button with keyless entry and more importantly Perodua after sale service is affordable and easy to find(almost everywhere). Perodua Bezza also give good fuel economy.

User experience

  • I have already done 120000km
  • My average fuel consumption is 9-12L/km.

Perodua Bezza is a sedan version of Perodua Axia. Its lack of space especially near the driver's leg is apparent compared to 2009 Myvi. The steering is fixed and lack of respond when driving due to its Electrical Steering System(EPS).At the back, the passenger seat quite straight, lack of rear aircond vent but fortunately the door opening is almost 90 degree making ingress/engress easy. We used to put 2 baby car seat at the back but the middle seat become quite cramp.

Our car is Advance version so it came with factory fitted heat tinted, audio steering control, 14inch wheel and touch screen infotainment unit. The infotainment head unit is quite basic, come with GPS function which already outdated, reverse camera and CD player.I wish Perodua put minimum 4 airbags and front&rear digital recording camera as extra safety feature. After 2 years(approx 60,000km) i started servicing the car at outside worksyop. The engine only used fully synthetic oil 0w-20, Iridium spark plug and the car battery using high crank type.

So bear in mind this info when servicing the car. The car suspension is on the soft side,so cornering is not its strong point. In December 2021, i decided to change the suspension into KYB Ultra RS but maintaining the original spring. At first, the suspension felt quite hard but after a while, i get used to it.Now when taking corner, no more floating feeling but you felt more confident.

Pros of my car:

  • cheap to own & maintain
  • cheap roadtax (1300cc)
  • reliable and suitable as family car&first time car owner
  • attractive design(nice bodykits,LED rear lamp)
  • good features (reverse camera,leather seat,VSC)
  • Big boot space

Cons of my car:

  • Original suspension felt floating when cornering
  • Original tyre quite noisy
  • Use only fully synthetic engine oil, Iridium spark plug and high crank type of car battery
  • Passenger seat quite straight
  • Driver leg area quite cramp

Summary :

I recommend Perodua Bezza to those who are looking for cheap, reliable with good fuel economy especially for young family and first time car owner. You can learn how to maintain a simple car with simple technology (engine, transmission, interior&exterior) before upgrading into much complex car (full sized sedan, SUV, MPV).
