All-new 2023 Nissan Serena (C28) rendered with an Alphard-like face

According to Japanese media, the next-generation 2023 Nissan Serena (C28) could be making its debut in November 2022 and bookings will be starting soon. Still, there have been numerous spyshots of the sixth-gen Serena spotted in Japan and Thailand.

Even though units have been spotted in our northern neighbour, the C28 Serena will likely be launched in Japan first. Seeing that its boxy rivals from Toyota and Honda have been given an all-new generation in 2022, Nissan might be thinking better to be late than never.

The renders showed what the front, rear, and interior of the next-gen Serena might look like and we begin with the front. The most prominent feature is obviously the front grille which though has Nissan’s trademark V-motion design looks awfully similar to the Toyota Alphard’s menacing mug.

Meanwhile, the rear rendering shows very few changes compared to the outgoing Serena but one of the most notable changes would be the rear taillight design which has an L-shape silhouette. This has been hinted at in one of the spyshots taken in Thailand.

So far there have not been any spyshots of the interior of the all-new Serena but the team at Goo-net took a stab at what it would look like inside and it looks minimalistic but also futuristic. A large digital instrument display is flanked next to a 12.3-inch infotainment display while slim air vents are placed below that massive touchscreen.

The most interesting part inside comes below the air-cond controllers and buttons. Goo-net predicts that the all-new Serena would eliminate the regular gear shift lever for a set of buttons. Some of us may not have some indifferences to button-style shifters but this would clear up some practicality space for a family minivan like the Serena.

Japanese media have also reported that the next-gen Serena could see the addition of a Luxion variant as the minivan’s highest trim. The Luxion could be the only 7-seater variant offered with a pair of captain chairs in the middle row while the other variants including the Highway Star are only available with an 8-seater configuration.

The top-of-the-line Serena Luxion could also feature ProPilot 2.0 ADAS and ProPilot Remote Parking as standard while they are an option on the other variants. In terms of powertrains, the Luxion might be only offered with the 1.2-litre e-Power hybrid system (136 PS/320 Nm).

The 2.0-litre S-Hybrid (150 PS/200 Nm) is reportedly being carried over into the next-generation Serena according to Japanese media but more priority would be given to the e-Power variants.

As for Malaysia, the facelifted Serena S-Hybrid had just launched a few months ago. So, we might have to wait much longer for the all-new Serena if it is making its long-awaited debut in Japan in November.
