All-new 2020 Volkswagen Golf Mk8, not expected in Malaysia until 2021

The all-new 2020 Volkswagen Golf Mk8 was unveiled back in October, and sales in Germany has only begun yesterday. With the exception of the United Kingdom, sales in other right-hand drive markets, including Singapore and Australia, are not expected to begin until late-2020.

At launch, the all-new Golf is available across several variants, including Style, R-Line, and GTE.

The hotter GTI and R variants are expected to debut at a later date.

For the German market, Volkswagen is offering a range of petrol, hybrid, and diesel engines, which includes a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine hooked up to an electric motor in the Golf GTE plug-in hybrid, which outputs 245 hp.

What about us?

Closer to home, we can rule out the possibilities of the plug-in hybrid and diesel variants of the Golf arriving here, leaving us with the regular petrol units.

That leaves us with the regular 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines, either in 130 PS or 150 PS guises.

While European markets have the option of a 6-speed manual, units bound for Malaysia are expected to feature a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

When will the 2020 Volkswagen Golf be launched in Malaysia?

Considering that the all-new Golf just arrived across German dealerships, we won’t hold our breaths for a Malaysian debut before 2020 ends.

We’d be lucky if the all-new Golf can arrive in Malaysia dealerships before 2020 ends, but that is extremely unlikely.

Besides, with the introduction of the Golf mk 7.5 line-up last year, the outgoing model still has plenty of life left in it.
