In mechanical engineering, the best topic that you can really enjoy is in Automobile Engineering subject. ( A.E in 8th Semester ). When you study the topics in that subject, and if you really ride a car and bike, then the whole subject is relative. You will always feel in the subject that “this had happen to me”, oh yes now i understand “ why there is knocking sound” “which brakes or suspension we have in our bike” etc. The subject will give you euphoric as well as nostalgic feelings, and it will also give a technical reach to your driving experience.
Clicking would normally be the sound of a solenoid valve opening a water valve to fill the automatic icemaker cube mold. Knocking is probably the noise created by the hermetically sealed refrigerant compressor when it turns off. It is caused be the weak spring suspension of the compressor/motor (mounted inside a heavy gage metal housing). When the compressor turns off, the high pressure of the refrigerant causes the compressor/motor to stop spinning so abruptly, a high centrifugal force acts on the compressor and pushes it against the inside of the metal housing which creates the knocking sound.
It's called Water Hammer. The pipework needs more support and “suspension”. Apart from that, there's not a lot you can do to solve it. There are specific valves that claim to cure it, but the plumbers I've worked with don't rate them well.
Assuming your mileage is around 150K or better, your suspension parts are wearing out. Check swaybar links for the knocking sound and have a good look at the constant-velocity joints for the rumbleing. I’m sure someone will also want to replace your shocks, but that’s probably not your main issue.
It goes without saying that you should check for any apparent physical damage. That being said lets come down to the performance aspect off the vehicle. Suspension Check for the ride height. If the ride height is lesser than a new i10 then probably the suspension is faulty and it should be a matter of concern. Engine Turn on the ignition and observe whether any peculiar (read: knocking) sound is coming from the engine. If not, its safe to assume engine is in a satisfactory condition. Air-Filter Check the condition of the air-filter and ask when was it last changed. It should've been changed after 30k kms. Oil Check when was the oil last changed and what are the current level of oil in the engine. Brakes Check the brakes once. If all of it seems satisfactory to you then INR 191,000 for a 2009 i10 is a good price to pay.
If the knocking is related to the engine speed, it sounds like your ignition timing might be off. Look for damage to the anti-knock sensor, any temperature sensors (air, coolant, etc), injectors or spark plugs and ignition coils. Pulling the OBD codes may indicate which component(s) are having issues. If it’s related to the car’s speed (put it in neutral briefly to see if the noise changes) then inspect tires, CV joints, suspension, motor mounts and brakes. If it’s happening during acceleration then inspect the rear especially as that part is loaded more. Try to see if the same sounds happen while climbing a hill under moderate acceleration to see if it’s only under heavy power or just settling to the rear.
As mentioned above…apart from engine the knock sound can arise from the suspension sometimes coz of the worn out suspension mounts.. Loose parts or panels while driving can cause that sound.
Yes and generally there is nothing to worry about. This is the technique that ABS brakes use whereby they are pulsating on and off rather quickly and could cause a noise. However there is a chance that there are other suspension components that are worn which is causing excessive movement in the bushes and joints and they then create the noise.

A tie rod end is part of your steering/suspension system which connect the steering rack to the wheels. You can usually hear a knocking sound when you turn a corner if they are really bad. If they are just worn, by using a pry bar you can move the tie rod and see some movement in the tie rod end. These are relatively cheap to replace and it's best to replace both side as the other will most likely be the same age and also worn.
