MoF: Tax structure under review, return to GST mulled but only after MCO

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) is currently studying measures to widen Malaysia’s tax revenue base, including the reinstatement of Goods and Services Tax (GST). A report by The Edge quoted MoF Deputy Secretary-general Zakiah Jaafar as saying that tax reforms are necessary as Malaysia currently collects only 17 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in tax revenues, which is quite low relative to high-income nations. Toyota files patent for 'crab-like' handling. What's that?

In a world obsessed with race car ride and handling, Toyota is looking at another direction: cyberpunk-inspired, all-terrain handling. In a filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the application describes a system where all four wheels can turn enough to make them point laterally, allowing for sideways movement, something like the Nissan Pivo pictured above. To make things simpler, imagine how a crab walks, and you’ve got the right idea! Additionally, the wheels can a

Toyota announces new TNGA platform for next generation Vios and Yaris

Toyota’s small cars family will be next in line to benefit from Toyota’s much vaunted TNGA platform. Short for Toyota New Global Architecture, the all-new TNGA platform has been the key reason why recent Toyota models like C-HR, Camry, and Corolla have been grabbing the title of best-in-class handling away from Mazda. Currently, there are three variations of Toyota’s TNGA platform (actually there are four if you include the Lexus LS’ GA-L). GA-C was the first of the TNGA platform series introduc

2020 Toyota Corolla Altis GR Sport launched in Taiwan, improved handling but no power gains

Toyota Corolla Altis Hotai Motor, the official distributor of Toyota vehicles in Taiwan has just introduced the Corolla Altis GR Sport, available as a regular petrol or hybrid variant. Deal breakers: 2020 Toyota RAV4, worth RM 40k more than the Honda CR-V?

Recently, our colleague Zamil had the opportunity to spend some time in the new Toyota RAV4. Toyota’s new kid on the block is here to challenge the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5’s status quo. Powered by Toyota’s new 2.0 and 2.5-litre Dynamic Force engines, and utilising the new TNGA-K platform that also underpins the Corolla Altis and Camry, the RAV4’s recipe is a compelling one. What’s so great about the RM 150k 2019 Toyota C-HR?

On paper, the Toyota C-HR is extremely underwhelming and frankly unappetizing. Halogen projectors, 17-inch wheels, 1.8-litre naturally aspirated DVVT-I with measly 140 PS & 171 Nm just doesn’t quite fit the bill of a RM 150,000 SUV. Not only that, but the tight-ish interior also doesn’t quite appeal to the family shoppers – limited knee room and only 388 litres of boot space. If you’re claustrophobic like me, I strongly suggest to not spend too long in the back seats of the C-HR. Safety features

At the same time, it’s only has front-wheel drive, with an elongated rear half that looks more like an MPV than an SUV. So what is the Honda BR-V? Is it an MPV or an SUV? Honda City - Should you buy one now or wait for the new one?

Honda took the covers off the all-new, fifth-generation City in Bangkok back in November 2019. If you’ve been eyeing one, you may have to wait a fair bit longer, as the soonest the new model could be introduced in Malaysia is late-2020 or early-2021. Not only has changes in the tax structure and Open Market Value (OMV) calculations delayed car launches a fair bit, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic isn’t helping matters as well. As such, the current fourth-generation City is still a viable option. Wa

2021 Toyota Corolla Cross vs Proton X70 – Still want that X70?

It is inevitable, comparing the recently-introduced 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross against one of the most popular SUVs around – the Proton X70.
