Mazda 2 Hatchback

Mazda's entry-level car Mazda 2 received a facelift in 2020. The 2020 Mazda 22020 Mazda 2 will continue to be the B-segment hatchback and sedan to provide the best driving experience for drivers. Though not as popular as rivals like Toyota Yaris and Vios and Honda City and Jazz, the Mazda 2 now has a list of equipment like GVC Plus and Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity.

Design 

Instead of a sharp face, the facelift 2020 Mazda 2 now has rounder cheeks for a more sophisticated look. Mazda has done away with the fog lamp housings for a seamless impression.

Dimensions

The Mazda 2 Sedan measures at 4,340 x 1,695 x 1,470 x 2,570 mm while the Mazda 2 Hatchback measures at 4,065 x 1,695 x 1,495 x 2,570 mm in length, width, height and wheelbase.

Lighting

Both sedan and hatchback variants are fitted with LED headlights, but the Mazda 2 only has rear foglights and no front fog lights.

Wheels

The Mazda 2 rolls on 16-inch wheels.

Dashboard

Since its launch into the Skyactiv generation, the 2020 Mazda 2 has one of the most premium interiors in the B-segment market. Whether it was the sedan or the hatchback, the Mazda 2's dashboard is covered in soft-touch leather with red stitching for details.

Instrument Cluster 

A backlit rev metre takes precedence in the Mazda 2's instrument cluster. Mazda's trend of rearranging all important information on the cluster started with the Mazda 2 and the car is also the first in its class to feature fully digital displays on the instrument cluster.

Space and Practicality 

The Mazda 2 is not the most practical car in the segment, neither does the car gifts much legroom to the rear passengers. But as Mazda markets the car as a driver-centric car, it's not a surprise that the Mazda 2 is not big on space.

Boot 

Like its fellow Mazda siblings, the Mazda 2 has a very small boot that fits smaller items only. You're going to have to drop the rear seats if you want to ferry your 28-inch luggage bag around.

Safety Feature 

There are still only 2 airbags on the Mazda 2, but the car is equipped with safety equipment like Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control System (TCS) and Emergency Brake Assist.

Comfort Feature 

You can "blue gray" leather seats on the Mazda 2, though both front seats are only manually adjustable. Mazda has added convenient features like Walk Away Lock and plenty of ambient lighting that are there for visibility in the dark.

Infotainment 

The MZD Connect in the Mazda 2 has been upgraded to be accessible via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system can now be commanded via Voice Command and has a built-in navigation system that will even show you the map in 3D.

Engine 

Known as the Skyactiv-G, the Mazda 2's 1.5-litre engine dispenses 116 PS and 149 Nm of torque.

Transmission

Mazda knows the transmission in the Mazda 2 as the Skyactiv-Drive 6-speed automatic.

Chassis 

Both Mazda 2 Sedan and Hatchback are equipped with Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) and has a turning radius of 9.7 m from curb to curb.

Drivetrain 

The Mazda 2 is front-wheel drive only.

Sound Proofing 

Mazda has done what they can to improve the Mazda 2's soundproofing. While it's not the quietest interior as compared to the Toyota Yaris and Vios, the Mazda 2 does have an interior that distributes sound well so any outside noise is not intrusive on the senses.

Passenger Comfort 

Thanks to GVC Plus, the Mazda 2's ride comfort has improved significantly. The suspension is not as firm as before, but not too soft that it gives a crashy ride.

Sound Proofing 

Soundproofing is not the best in the Bezza though it has significantly improved from the pre-facelift.

Passenger Comfort 

Because of the larger wheels, the Bezza has a better ride comfort than the pre-facelift.

Mazda claims the 1.5-litre engine manages 5.3-litre/ 100 km based on the UN R101 fuel test method.

The Mazda 2 has always been a silent contender in the B-segment market. While the Hondas offer practicality and the Toyotas offer safety equipment, the Mazda 2 has always prided itself as a car created for the driver.
