Proton GKUI head unit upgrades to JOOX Music app for Proton X70, Iriz, Persona & Exora

In case you’re not aware, some Proton models that are equipped with the GKUI touchscreen infotainment system has built-in 4G LTE internet connectivity and free online music streaming services (Ultimate Music by Tencent).

Proton has just announced that they will be migrating their music app to JOOX Music – also a product of Tencent. The new app will be installed via an OTA (over-the-air) update which will be released from 27 March 2020 onwards.

This update will be rolled out to all Proton X70 variants and Premium variants of the Iriz, Persona, and Exora.

To commence the OTA update, owners will receive a pop-up window on their head unit to download the latest software. Once prompt the latest software (Version 2.6.5 (F9)) will be automatically downloaded for free and will not consume the owner’s monthly data.

However, once the package is downloaded and the installation begins, you must not switch off the engine until the installation is complete.

From there, getting JOOX Music working is a fairly straightforward process. Download the JOOX Music app on your smartphone via Google Play Store or Apple App Store and scan the QR code on the infotainment system to complete the login.

Once logged in, you will now have access to over 30 million songs.

Proton did not disclose the reasoning behind the move to JOOX music but, we’d assume that it is to address the issue of the previous music app burning through the monthly 1 GB internet data very quickly.

Hopefully, with the new JOOX Music app, owners will be able to stream their favorite hits without having to worry about their internet data cap.
