Ratings: 2019 Mazda CX-5 space and practicality, low marks for space but good seating comfort

Mazda cars were never known to be spacious and the same is true for the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo. Let’s evaluate its interior space and practicality through our WapCar Ratings.

The Mazda CX-5 is a 5-seater C-segment SUV in the same category as the Honda CR-V, Proton X70 and Subaru Forester.

The second row is nowhere near as spacious as its main rivals but it is still acceptable for 3 adults abreast. For 175 cm tall adults, there is about 2 tennis balls of knee room and 1 tennis balls of headroom.

Although space is not as generous, the seating position is absolutely spot on and comfortable. The rear seats only have a recline angle of 23 degrees, but they have good back and thigh support which makes long-distance travels comfortable and relaxing.

Amenities and storage spaces are aplenty in the CX-5. The front centre armrest has a two-tier compartment which is convenient for loose items and the door bins can fit a 1.5L water bottle.

For the rear passengers, there are 2 USB charging ports neatly tucked inside the centre folding armrest which opens up to more storage space.

Boot space in the CX-5 is rated at 442 litres, which is not very practical for a family SUV. But you do get a flat-folding load lip and it’s easy to load items into the boot. The tonneau cover is also neatly integrated into the tailgate and doesn’t require any manual effort.
