Owner Review: The different choice, My 2022 Proton Iriz Active

Basic information about my car:

2022 Proton Iriz Active

Reasons why I bought this car:

There are plenty of reasons why I bought this car.Firstly,Myvi is too common, and I wish to have a hatchback that are unique, cheaper, and nicer to drive. I have been paying attention to Iriz for quite a while, and I noticed improvement of Proton ever since release of Proton X70. However, I am influenced by comment from some youtuber claiming Iriz R3 is for clear stock purposes, hence I did not buy that Iriz R3. When Proton finally released Iriz Active, I made my decision to purchase it.

Car selection process
- I had a budget of: Within RM60k

- Models that I have considered include: myvi, Axia, Jazz, Yaris, City Hatchback or Second Hand Mazda 2

Reasons why I chose this car:

Size of Proton Iriz is just right for me, not too big nor too small, similar to Honda Jazz. Dashboard design improved a lot,it is now modern and hi tech. Red elements implemented in interior (such as red safety belt) remind me the sporty vibe of my Proton Wira SE. Exterior design is very unique. My favourite spot is rear logo.Black PROTON emblem and Red R in iRiz provide nice design touch to the car.Sound system of Proton Iriz is excellent. It performs better than Myvi Gen3. For me, Sound system is very important. Performance of sound systems decide future expenditure of modifying/upgrading. As far as I am concerned, Iriz is futureproof and no modifcation/upgrade needed.

User experience:
- My average fuel consumption is 11.3KM/L

I have driven my car for a month. Compared to my Myvi Gen 3, Iriz have a better leather quality wrapped on steering wheel, better built quality on gear shifter, more comfy seats, and better sound system. Voice command for map is very convenient, albeit it could be better if Voice command could support other language. (Voice command only support English input) Combo of Camrpo + CVT is not as thirsty as rumor suggests.

For me, I use my car for daily routine of work and shopping in supermarket, and I only spend RM50 of fuel per month. It is worth mentioning where pedal respond of Iriz require driver to get used with it. It is nessary to anticipate and floor the pedal earlier in junction. The Teh Tarik Hook at Passenger Seat is a nice touch. This is what we Malaysian need, to suit our tapaw ikat tepi lifestyle.

Pros of my car:

- Interior space similar to Honda Jazz.

- Seats is more ergonomics compared to Perodua Myvi.

- Interior with Red element, nice touch.

- Auto fold side mirror.

- Red safety belt look sporty and premium.

Cons of my car:

- Campro throttle respond is laggy

- Gear Shifter location is too close to cup holder, easy to knock the cup off when shifting gear.

- Have to press brake pedal firmly to start the car. You can't start the car if you release brake pedal too soon.

- Voice command for power window only support driver side power window, not all 4 power window.

- Annoying when there is voice reminder when door opened.

- Reverse camera display is laggy in some specific scenario.

- There is a slight noise in front/at back

Summary:

I often drive alone, and I do not have a permanent car park. I will join some motorsports event and I like low bass music.Proton Iriz Active suit all my requirements, and to be fair - this car is not expensive. Red safety belt made me feel young and spirited, albeit some will think Red safety belt is very "Ah Beng". Some also will say Campro is outdated and old tech.

For me, I think we need to consider the price factor. "You pay what you get" For this price, I can get a 5 Star ASEAN NCAP car, and 600km of mileage for full tank, with better handling and stability compared to Saga. Animation of Iriz Active in Speedo also created a sense of premium.

Interesting Event:

I send my car back to Service Center for paint touch up in 30th of July, as there are some paint chipped off on the back of my car. However, as the completion date collided with public holiday, I could only collect my car in early August. When I get my car, it is covered with dust. Upon enquiry, Service Center explained that free car wash is only provided once service is completed, while no free car wash to be provided prior car collection.

Those dust corroded my car paint, and I have to wax it out myself.

Also, when I send my car in for service, key ring attached to my car key is lost. Service Center Personell denied the existence of my key ring. Luckily my key ring is not AirTag.

Aftersales service of Proton still have huge room of improvement.
