MCO 3.0: Toyota temporarily pauses manufacturing and sales, after-sales to continue

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has momentarily put its sales and manufacturing operations on hold in light of the Full Movement Control Order (FMCO) which began on 1-June 2021.

Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor stated that they wanted to be able to continue to provide support to customers even during the lockdown, which is why customers may still rely on them for vehicle emergencies and breakdowns.

He also mentioned that there will be a 30-day extension for warranties on vehicles purchased from UMW Toyota Motor or any of their authorised dealers that are valid and expiring during the MCO period. The extension will be calculated from the last day of MCO.

The increase in sales of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia which showcased a 120 percent increase from 2020 showed that consumers are regaining purchasing confidence. Customers are also taking advantage of further savings with the exemption of Sales and Service Taxes (SST) which has been extended until 31-December 2021.

UMW Toyota Motor Deputy Chairman, Akio Takeyama remarked: “We are extremely grateful to the Government for taking numerous intervention measures to not only safeguard Malaysians from the threat of the pandemic, but in introducing financial and industrial policies to ensure that the pandemic does not have a too severe impact on the economy. This includes a further extension of the SST exemptions which we believe has, and will continue to contribute significantly towards restoring consumer purchasing confidence.”

Takeyama added that the local automotive industry has been saved by the arrival of new models throughout the year as well as the SST incentives. The industry can continue to strive despite the challenges that the pandemic caused.

Ravindran K. also said that they will develop more sales and after sales programs so that customers are still able to save in these turbulent times.

UMW Toyota Motor also encourages the public to remain at home, stay safe and to support each other. Customers can be well assured that they will be provided with the support they seek during this period.

“To all of our healthcare workers and those upholding peace and order in every way big and small, we owe each of you a profound debt of appreciation and gratitude for your selfless service. We would like to say a big thank you to all of you,” added Ravindran K.
