Mazda CX-30 launched in Malaysia. Priced from RM 143,059 – more space, more fun

Following its preview earlier in November, Bermaz Motors has finally launched the Mazda CX-30. Imported from Japan, the Mazda 3-based 2.0-litre crossover is priced just slightly above the entry level 1.5-litre variant Mazda 3. It's a very good value proposition.

3 variants are on offer. The prices are several hundred Ringgits lower than the estimated price announced previously:

  • Mazda CX-30 2.0L Petrol: RM 143,059
  • Mazda CX-30 2.0L Petrol High: RM 164,059
  • Mazda CX-30 1.8L Diesel High: RM 172,943

The 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine dispenses 165 PS at 6,000 rpm and 213 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Mazda claims a top speed of 196 km/h for both petrol variants.

On the other hand, the 1.8L turbodiesel engine sends 116 PS at 4,000 rpm and 270 Nm at 2,700 rpm. The diesel engine has a much lower top speed of 183 km/h and weights in at 1,514 kg.

Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, similar to the Mazda 3 and also driving the front wheels.

You get LED headlights on all 3 variants though LED daytime running lights are only limited to the 2.0L petrol High and 1.8L diesel High.

The specifications between the 2.0L Petrol High and 1.8L Diesel High are identical, all the way to the 18-inch wheels.

Because the CX-30 is imported from Japan (which explains the hefty price tag), there is a wide range of colour options available. The 8 colour options include the headlining Soul Red, Machine Grey, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Polymetal Gray, Titanium Flash, and Jet Black - all available at no extra cost, unlike the locally-assembed CX-5.

Power tailgate and powered sunroof are available on both High variants only.

On the inside, you get fabric seats for the basic 2.0L while the High variants get black leather upholstery instead. There are also memory settings for the driver seat for both High variants and 10-way power adjustments.

In terms of infotainment, all 3 variants come installed with an 8.8-inch screen. This screen is not touchscreen but is adjusted via Voice Command or the Multi-Function Commander Control.

This also means that all 3 variants' Mazda Connect Infotainment are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ready. Music is transmitted to 8-speakers, also available across the range.

Keen drivers will appreciate the floor-hinged pedal

In terms of safety, the CX-30 comes with 7 airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control and even Emergency Stop Signal for all variants. Did you know that the CX-30's safety ratings is on par with the Volvo XC40?

Like all Mazdas that come after the Mazda CX-5 Turbo launched last year, the Mazda CX-30 also utilises Mazda's GVC Plus technology for better handling and better ride comfort.

The new Mazda CX-30 High variants also come with a whole suite of Advance Driving Assistance System (ADAS) that includes BSM with RCTA, Smart Brake Support and also Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) just to name a few.

Bermaz Motors is offering the new 2020 Mazda CX-30 with a 5-year / 100,000km warranty with 5 years of Free Maintenance.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr

Review: BYD Dolphin in Malaysia - A solid choice for EV beginners, except for one thing

You might be aware that Malaysia prohibits the import of electric vehicles (EVs) priced below RM 100,000, and this is indeed accurate. The rationale behind this policy, driven by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), is actually sound when you consider their goal of attracting investments in the EV sector. In the world of technology, most of the valuable stuff is in the higher-end product range. Cheaper electric cars have minimal technological sophistication; they're kind of li
