Proton X70 is spacious but not as practical as expected from an SUV – Ratings

The Proton X70 is a spacious SUV that will accommodate 5 adults comfortably. Rear legroom is generous with 35 cm (equivalent to 3 tennis balls) of space when adjusted for a 175 cm tall adult at the rear and front.

Headroom is also surprisingly sufficient (equivalent to 2 tennis balls, 175 cm tall adult) despite having a panoramic glass roof. The rear seats are also fairly supportive with a seat recline angle of 26°. Thigh support is also good as the seat base is at a 19° angle.

More importantly, the X70 has a flat floor which benefits the comfort for the passenger in the middle seat.

There are a total of 6 cup holders in the X70, but they can only accommodate small 500 ml mineral water bottles. Storage space is not the most practical as the side door bins and centre armrest storage are smaller than average.

There is also no storage space on the centre console, just 2 cup holders which will mostly be used to stow your keys and loose items.

Boot space in the X70 is rated at 512 litres – 10 litres shy of the Honda CR-V. The boot space is as large as advertised but only if you do not use the tonneau cover provided as it lowers the available loading area.
