Bought what I believe is likely the very last Throttle Position Sensor available for the 1986 Nissan Stanza Wagon. Took weeks to find one that fit. Sorry to all 7 other Stanza Wagon owners, if your TPS goes you're out of luck 😬 https://t.co/0qeYl9wmLc

You’ll need to bring your car to a shop that has a scanner capable of doing a idle re learn procedure. However if you used a cheap Made in China type of sensor it could very well be defective. Also Nissan’s only like the sensors that come from the dealerships. I’ve installed up to five of the cheap one’s before being forced to pay the extra money for the Nissan one to repair the car. Clean the throttle body and have the shop check the TPS readings because that can also be the reason the light keeps coming back on. Good luck and hope this helps.
I opened the TPS in my Nissan SR20DET when it was 15 years and 190,000km old — it was like new. The particular model (Hitachi SERA486–06 D 8514) has no sealing problems and never needs cleaning. If a particular sensor has a problem with dirt getting in, it will give false readings, which will affect any function that uses the information of throttle position: automatic transmission would shift wrong, engine fast throttle enrichment would work wrong, etc. If the position value went out of bounds, the car’s self-diagnostic system would probably detect the fault and log an error. If not, and if the sensor was of potentiometer-type, its nonlinearity could be found out with a multimeter.
We need fuel , air , compression and spark. And don't assume anything! For example, you state that you have “fuel”. Liquid fuel running at the supply hose to the fuel rail isn't an adequate check. We need proper pressure AND fuel delivery at the injector tip. And the “fuel” can't be 50% water. Injector pulse at the injector connector is a good check , but still not a 100% check. Cars that have sat unused for a couple years can have stuck closed injectors. Now lets move on to compression. Incorrect cam timing will cause very low or zero compression. And so can a badly flooded engine. Perhaps you “fixed” the original fault, but the cylinders are so washed down with fuel that compression is week. Yes, I've seen it. I hope that when you checked for spark you verified that a strong spark was available at each plug, and not just at the coil output terminal. High voltage will take the path of least resistance. If it can jump a 1/4 inch gap at the spark plug end of the wire, thats a pretty good back yard indicator of an ignition system healthy enough to start an engine. Being that it is an 89 Nissan product, we can't just plug a scan tool in to verify important data, or even an ECU that is “alive”. A new control module is not grounds for crossing that area off of our suspects list. That control module needs to have proper power and ground, and it needs to be actually functional. Once again, don't assume anything “should” be fine. On the subject of control modules and inputs, here's another one that can run you in circles. When the throttle position sensor reads over approximately 90%, the control module will enter “clear flood “ mode and disable fuel delivery. To keep repeating a theme, verify the correct TPS signal at the control module. Don't assume a new TPS will automatically cure it. Some of these checks would be simple and quick with other manufacturers. You'll have to work for it on this unit.
A faulty tps or throttle position sensor/a bad accelerator pedal sensor ! Also a antilock brake problem can cause a vehicle to to enter limp mode / fail safe mode . A broken throttle cable not likely but it could cause problems .but These newer model cars don't use throttle cables anymore Nissan drive by wire throttle body's like to act up just by breathing on it ..
